.......the small city where I live has virtually ZERO major felony crime (home invasion, robbery, murder, car jacking, rape etc etc).

Indeed, it may have been decades since one of these type crimes have occurred, if ever.

The irony is that despite this comparatively pristine record, we have more cops on the street than this article asserts West LA has.

“Cops”, ala the big city unionized versions, have just become waaaayyyyy to expensive per cop. Small cities are transitioning to private cops at a greatly reduced COST. I think the next step is trained, volunteer, mostly unarmed observers on the streets late at night.

The days of sole reliance upon cops riding around in expensive patrol cars are coming to a gradual and painfully slow end.
