Who won the ratings race: Fox News or Donald Trump?
CNN ^ | January 29, 2016

Donald Trump counter-programmed Thursday's GOP primary debate on Fox with his own prime time event. So whose show scored a bigger audience?

Answer: Fox's debate. But it was the second lowest rated debate of the season. So Trump is certain to take credit for hurting the channel's total viewership.

Fox News Channel's Trump-less debate had an 8.4 household rating, according to early Nielsen data from so-called metered markets.

This means 8.4% of American metered market homes with TV sets were watching the face-off.

By comparison, two of the cable channels that showed parts of Trump's event, CNN and MSNBC, had about a quarter of Fox's audience combined.

So Trump's rivals clearly came out ahead in the raw ratings.

The most recent GOP debate, televised two weeks ago on the harder-to-find Fox Business Network, had a household rating of 7.4.

So Thursday's debate was bigger -- but not by much. The other five GOP debates of the cycle have had household ratings ranging from 8.9 to 15.9.

I noticed that MSNBC & CNN seemed to cut off the sound for Trump when he was making a good point, and would go to panelists instead. Trump was also n CSPAN

These are ratings....not number of viewers.

I think they're hiding real numbers which is only a guess anyways.

Headline: Fox News Debate Numbers Steady Without Donald Trump

It will be interesting to see the actual numbers compared against normal ratings. For example:

I would not say “CNN covered” Trumps program. What I saw was an excuse for CNN to talk over just about every guest (including the Donald) that came up to the microphone. I switched it off after about 10 minutes, switching back and forth the rest of the program, and it never seemed to change. This was NOT “CNN “covering” the Trump Program...

My complaint with Fox News over the last few years is that they have forgotten their customers.
Ailes puts the employees before the customers and that is killing Fox News.

I would have watched Trump's event on CNN but every time I tuned in it was Don Lemon, or Hillary or Bernie on the screen. I'm familiar enough with Trump's positions that I saw no need to put up with the rest of the crap sandwich that CNN put on to see him.

So I watched the Avengers instead.

It says Fox had 25 million viewers the firs time. This one they estimate to be 11-13 million, so only half without Trump.

This ignores how people watch tv.

DVR. Computer open. Mute on. Kids running around.

But it’s useful for... Ad rates.

Very small % of people under 30 ever sit through any TV ads.

This does not take into consideration OAN where we were able to watch uninterrupted the full Vets rally. So the numbers are skewed.

FoxNews won the ratings race. It was close, but they won.

Now on to the caucuses! How many votes does FoxNews get?

And CSPAN. I was flipping back and forth between CSPAN and CNN because CNN kept cutting in with other garbage like Van Jones.

It was on CSPAN without interruption.

I was suprised at the callers CSPAN was getting after the event, from both Dems and Reps, and Iowa voters. Many Dems switching their vote to Trump as a result.

[FoxNews won the ratings race. It was close, but they won.]

People wanted to watch Cruz get spanked.
