Donald Trump Is Shocking, Vulgar and Right
Politico ^ | 1/28/16 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 01/29/2016 12:00:16 AM PST by paltz

About 15 years ago, I said something nasty on CNN about Donald Trump’s hair. I can’t now remember the context, assuming there was one. In any case, Trump saw it and left a message the next day. “It’s true you have better hair than I do," Trump said matter-of-factly. “But I get more pussy than you do." Click.

At the time, I’d never met Trump and I remember feeling amused but also surprised he’d say something like that. Now the pattern seems entirely familiar. The message had all the hallmarks of a Trump attack: shocking, vulgar and indisputably true.

Not everyone finds it funny. On my street in Northwest Washington, D.C., there’s never been anyone as unpopular as Trump. The Democrats assume he’s a bigot, pandering to the morons out there in the great dark space between Georgetown and Brentwood. The Republicans (those relatively few who live here) fully agree with that assessment, and they hate him even more. They sense Trump is a threat to them personally, to their legitimacy and their livelihoods. Idi Amin would get a warmer reception in our dog park.

This was great. Thanks for posting it. I especially loved this:

Consider the conservative nonprofit establishment, which seems to employ most right-of-center adults in Washington. Over the past 40 years, how much donated money have all those think tanks and foundations consumed? Billions, certainly. (Someone better at math and less prone to melancholy should probably figure out the precise number.) Has America become more conservative over that same period? Come on. Most of that cash went to self-perpetuation: Salaries, bonuses, retirement funds, medical, dental, lunches, car services, leases on high-end office space, retreats in Mexico, more fundraising. Unless you were the direct beneficiary of any of that, you’d have to consider it wasted.

Pretty embarrassing. And yet they’re not embarrassed. Many of those same overpaid, underperforming tax-exempt sinecure-holders are now demanding that Trump be stopped. Why? Because, as his critics have noted in a rising chorus of hysteria, Trump represents “an existential threat to conservatism.”

Damn straight, Bubba!

Considering how the dems feel about trump, imagine the heartburn if he ran the same campaign on that ticket.

Finally, we have a candidate as vulgar as Bill Clinton. No wonder they were pals.

“Let that sink in. Conservative voters are being scolded for supporting a candidate they consider conservative because it would be bad for conservatism? And by the way, the people doing the scolding? They’re the ones who’ve been advocating for open borders, and nation-building in countries whose populations hate us, and trade deals that eliminated jobs while enriching their donors, all while implicitly mocking the base for its worries about abortion and gay marriage and the pace of demographic change. Now they’re telling their voters to shut up and obey, and if they don’t, they’re liberal.”

Ouch! He winged me.

The 15 people who phoned into C-Span after the Trump Veterans fund-raiser tonight apparently didn't get the Elite memo.

Bad news for the Uniparty...

There are going to be progtards arcing out in the streets in the general election...

Solid article.

Cruz is running as the think tank purist with a mix of evangelical.

Jeb and Rubio are running straight party establishment, which is why they’ve been in fighting so much.

Trump is running as a populist. He will attract a lot of voters who haven’t shown up in years. He will have the Nixom hard hat types and 20% black support.

Trump can wn the general.

Aftet Mitt lost the RNC paid for a study to find out why. You need voters was the conclusion. Broader the base.

Trump does that and they hate him.

Many are okay with Congrss and being the loyal opposition. They want open borders and conservative pholisopjocsl purity Sort of like Libertariams.

The problem is that hasn’t worked. The middle class is dying. What Pat Buchanan warned about NAFTA and all the trade deals was true.

Trump is a protest vote. A big FU to the establishment.

Democrats have the same thing on the left with Bernie Sanders. His is an angry voice. You’ve been sold out. Things aren’t equal. Aren’t fair. A rigged game so knock over the piece. Take the country back.

Two sides of the same populist coin. That would be the ideal election with Trump winning big.

If these republicans think they are upset, wait until the Democrat party bosses have a back room deal making convention. It’ll look like 1968.

I agree!

Trump is an old fashioned patriot, a real man, and one who speaks plainly!

I sick of metrosexual girlie-men, the "HIPSTER" little boys in an adult body who are slobs, weasel word lawyer pols, and the lazy self absorbed uneducated Millennials.

No...you're wrong about old Bernie!

He's just an old hippie, who is a damned MAXRIST and appeals to the idiot anarchist crowd as well as the brain dead college kids, and the OCCUPY WALL STREET morons.

Bernie is the Dem version of Trunp.

Insurgent against the old guard. An angry message. Yes he’s a bum and a Marxist. But you never hear that democrats are angry or in chaos do you?

Populist message:

You’ve been sold out. The elites have ripped you off. Screw them. I’ll take them down a notch or two. Vote for me.

Trump also is an anti Obama suitable for over correction.

Obama. Trump.
Young. Old.
Feminine. Alpha masculine
Black. White
Politician. Businessman.
Socialist. Capitalist.
Lazy. Over worker.
Equivocal. Blunt.

Vulgar?

Not really.

Whether it is the "real world" I, and most people I know, live in is perhaps debatable. But, being in my "profession", as a "construction worker", saying things like what Trump said to Carlson is commonplace. It is colorful and it is trash talk, coarse and straight forward in your face kind of talk. We are hardly ever "offended" by it. Maybe that makes us somewhat lowbrow for the polite crowd. But, it is who and what we are and there will be no apologies for it. Those offended can shove it up their *****.

Respectfully, of course.

:-)

What he gets wrong is giving Trump any credit for being sincere about most of his positions. The only thing Trump’s been consistent on over the years is trade deals. He used to be pro-partial-birth-abortion and staunchly in favor of the Cuban embargo 15 years ago. Now he’s pro-life and staunchly in favor of Obama’s opening trade with Cuba. Trump is a brilliant marketer and ratings-getter and knows how to tell his audience what they want to hear. Once his audience changes in the general election, his positions will change with them. And once he gets in office and public opinion shifts, his positions will switch with that as well. While a weather-vane candidate is better than a left-wing ideologue, it’s much worse than a true social, fiscal and national security conservative like Ted Cruz.

Now you've done it! I live in Iowa; Sanders has an ad (at least here) that is Simon & Garfunkel's "America" with no words...just scenes from rallies. It is a brilliant marketing strategy and one of the best political ads that I have ever seen.

I had that stupid song stuck in my head for several days, and had FINALLY managed to make it go away...and then your "old hippie" reference immediately started it up again...thanks...LOL!

Wrong. If populism is the issue in an election, the full populist will win over half a populist. Especially when the half a populist is a 1%'er himself. What Dem will vote for populist lite over the real thing?
