Editorial: Jeb Bush is best choice for Republican nomination
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 1/28/16 | Tampa Bay Times

It's time to stop treating the election of the next president of the United States like a game show without serious consequences. After more than a year of constant fundraising, meaningless opinion polls and reckless rhetoric from so many candidates, voters finally will make their voices heard starting Monday in the Iowa caucuses and eight days later in the New Hampshire primary. For Republicans fighting for both the soul of their party and the White House, the best choice is former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The Florida primary is not until March 15, and voters in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina will weed out the field. To the voters in those other states and to Florida Republicans as well, we offer this advice: We know Bush's strengths and weaknesses, and we are confident he is the most thoughtful, principled and energetic candidate in the Republican field.

To hell with anyone who wants to berate me for this stance.

If Jeb is the nominee, they have forsaken my vote, and I will choose not to give it to them. Same for Rubio.

Flame away, if you wish.

TBT, formerly the St. Pete Times, notorious liberal rag in these parts. No shock they support the GOPe candidate. I’m sure they’re very “concerned” for the Republican Party, but I can’t stomach to read through their excuse making at the moment.

I love how the media tells us this day after day after day, in the hopes that if it is said enough, it will come true. Chelsea Clinton even said — after her failure of a fundraiser for her mom at Soul Cycle in NYC, where they couldn’t even fill the bikes — that on the Republican side, she felt JEB! supported “American” values. Four years ago, Barack Obama offered an inspiring message of hope and change to an uneasy nation bogged down in two wars and facing economic collapse. . . . . This is not the time to reverse course and return to the failed policies of the past. Without hesitation, the Tampa Bay Times recommends Barack Obama for re-election as president.

Enough said.

Bush has no chance, IMHO, and would be a terrible president because he’d owe so many people. I’d vote for Rubio, but I don’t think he’s strong enough to really make a difference.

In any case, I can’t think what the Tampa paper had in mind with this “endorsement.” He was a good governor but most people in Florida are not interested in having him as President. Bizarre.
