Civic leaders, activists, artists and others are celebrating, marching and paying homage Monday to Martin Luther King Jr., marking the 30th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.
In South Carolina, civil rights leaders planned a march to their state capitol as in past years when their rally highlighted calls to remove the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds.
The King Day at the Dome gathering began in 2000 with that call. Last July, organizers got their wish as South Carolina swiftly removed the flag which had flown at the capitol for more than 50 years after what police said was a racially motivated shooting that claimed nine lives at a church in Charleston. ...

Bread and circuses. Meanwhile their own communities have fallen into death, misery & chaos.
Free at last...
“Slain civil rights leader...”
As if the 100’s of thousands slain in the Civil War, on both sides, to end slavery are chopped liver.
I’m beginning to resent MLK more and more every year as his image is utilized for the Fascists.
Another “win” for the SJW stormtroopers...
JAN 19 SHOULD BE CELEBRATED BY ALL! It is ROBERT E LEE’S birthday!
Say what you will, but Robert E Lee was still a very well respected man after the Civil War, even in the North!
Remember Public Enemy’s “By The Time I Get To Arizona”? Back then it was relegated to that sphere.
I remember an old political cartoon from maybe the 1970s.
It shows a black man on his knees proclaiming to a Simon LeGree character labeled Democratic Party..
“YOU MAY OWNS MY BODY BUT MY SOUL BELONGS TO, uh, to uh, TO YOUALL MASSAH!”
Loving the day off though. I will give him that much. Reagan is to be thanked for giving us the Holiday.
Yes, I’m sure a flag location change has made their lives so much tangibly better.
I’m just glad that they stopped that flag from killing again. It will never again hurt another person. /sarcasm
So now if some other jerk decides to repeat the shooters moronic actions what will we have to give next to appease the permanently outraged crowd?
Nothing was given. Two holidays were replaced, namely the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln, with MLK Day (left up to the states; “militant” people like the rappers Public Enemy threatened the AZ governor with death for not instituting it) and so-called “Presidents Day”. Net gain of zero.
it used to be lee/jackson day til history was re wrote.
We should also remember Anthony Johnson (1600-1670), early Virginia pioneer, planter and entrepreneur.
Indeed it has! Did you see the sudden drop in shootings in Chicago? No? Wonder why?
Indeed. It was a most unfortunate sop to political correctness that this nation may never recover from.
Funny, they are doing everything they can to cover up and
erase all evidence of the civil war and at the same time
they’re shoving slavery in everyone’s face like it still exists
today. Well it does.
For the first four months of every year every hard working,
tax paying American citizen is forced to work for the
government at the point of a gun. Most of their confiscated
income is spent buying liberal votes (redistributed).
They will erase every detail of the people who fought and
died to end slavery just as well as the people who fought
northern aggression. All that will remain is whites enslaved
blacks and therefor whites should pay for it, every generation
for as long as this country is constitutionally founded.
The most sickening thing about all of this is the only way
to end it, in the minority’s mind, is to become a socialist,
communist or fascist state. That is what they vote for.
“Net gain of zero.”
As far as I can tell, there are only two national holidays
that celebrate an individual person.
Christmas and MLK day. And liberals would love to can
Christmas.
Meanwhile, slavery around the world is more prevalent than at any other time in history. That does not matter to the “present dominates the past” crowd, of course.
The birthdays of Washington and Lincoln were focused on those individuals. “Presidents Day” is impersonal.
