Former CIA chief in Benghazi challenges film version of 2012 attacks

It is the most fateful moment in a movie that purports to present a searingly accurate account of the 2012 attacks that left four Americans dead in Benghazi, Libya: a scene in which the highest-ranking CIA operative at a secret agency compound orders his security team to “stand down” rather than rush off to rescue U.S. diplomats under siege less than a mile away.

According to the officer in charge of the CIA’s Benghazi base that night, the scene in the movie is entirely untrue.

“There never was a stand-down order,” said the base chief known as Bob, speaking publicly for the first time. “At no time did I ever second-guess that the team would depart.”

“Whatever the faults of 13 Hours — it can’t possibly be as intentionally deceptive as any Oliver Stone movie.”

Yes. Great point.

I’d add, or a Spielberg movie, or just about any of them.

Someone who tells our security personnel to “stand down” in the face of danger is not someone for whom I have abiding respect.

You don’t need to hail from Harvard and Yale to know Libya was a dangerous place.

From which we should have evacuated our embassy personnel and dependents well ahead of time.

Well...if he didn’t tell them to stand down (whatever the reason), then did he send the team? if they didn’t go, why not?

Bob is mentioned in the book the movie is made from.

He does not come off well.

Bob delayed the guys who wanted to go to the embassy as long as he could. Whether Bob delayed the guys through incompetence, stupidity or sheer stubbornness, I do not know.

a scene in which the highest-ranking CIA operative at a secret agency compound orders his security team to 'stand down' rather than rush off to rescue U.S. diplomats under siege less than a mile away.

From the very beginning, this was 'known'.

Former deputy chief of mission in Libya: U.S. military assets told to stand down - CNN article published on Tue May 7, 2013

"Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a member of the committee, tells CNN that "military personnel were ready willing and able, and within proximity, but the Pentagon told them they had no authority and to stand down.""

""So Lt. Col. Gibson, who is the SOCAfrica commander, his team, you know, they were on their way to the vehicles to go to the airport to get on the C-130 when he got a phone call from SOCAfrica which said, 'you can't go now, you don't have authority to go now,'' Hicks said. "And so they missed the flight.""

Bob did a much better job getting the hostages out of Iran in Fargo than he does in 13 Hours in rescuing the Ambassador. However, rescuing the Ambassador was not the mission.

I think it was a case of DOING NOTHING.

There were a few key areas where it required the consent or request of certain key officials to get the ball rolling.

They simply ‘did nothing’.

The key to figuring out who had the ultimate authority on this situation (and would have had to OK a ‘rescue’ mission) is to realize that there is the CIA, and then there is the DEPT of STATE CIA.

"The White House, State Department and Pentagon helped to create a long night of horrors in Benghazi that culminated in the rape, torture and murder of our ambassador."

Glenn Beck had the 3 on his program last night. He asked them, he said it has been reported that the ambassador had been..... and before he could get the word out, one of the 3 said "It didn't happen." He said he personally examined Ambassador Stephen.

Pentagon Email:

'They Are Spinning Up As We Speak': Why Were American Forces Held Back In Benghazi?

The men on the ground in Benghazi that night are lying. The people who claim they wanted to help, but were ordered not to, are lying. And the families of the men who fell are lying. Hell, even the official e-mail record is lying. They're all lying.

Other than Bob(???)there were others at the annex and CIA compound. I understand about three dozen. Why have they all been silenced about those “13 Hours”?

If never a stand down order, this would make it worse.

What a weaselly way to put it.

They were personally visited by Cheryl Mills, HIllary’s scrubber. They were specificly instructed to not to discuss the events with the Congressional Investigation and the team that was headed over there to interview them.

Then they were “lost” and unavailable according to the State Dept. and DOD.
