FROM OREGON: STATE LEGISLATORS MEET WITH GROUP AT WILDLIFE REFUGE, A SOLICITATION FOR SUPPLIES

There was a visit by state legislators (state representatives) from several states to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge Saturday night where they met with the group occupying the buildings there (Citizens for Constitutional Freedom) .

Oregon Republican State Representative Dallas Heard of Roseburg was joined by Washington state legislators Graham Hunt and Matt Shea, Idaho state legislators Judy Boyle, Heather Scott and Sage Dixon. Joining in by phone for the meeting was Nevada state legislator Michelle Fiore.

Mr. Heard said the group was on a fact finding mission and concerned about an armed assault on the protestors, but their visit was denounced by fellow Oregon legislator Cliff Bentz of Ontaro, whose district includes Harney County, the site of the protest.

Bentz said it was 'inappropriate' and Harney County Judge Steven E. Grasty, whose position gives him a role in the rural community as a county commissioner sounded angered by the visit.

Grasty was quoted by "Oregon Live" as saying "I don't see that group as any different than the Bundys. I think they placed themselves in danger...Just their visit would encourage (the Bundys)"

In a personal swipe at Mr. Heard Grasty was quoted as saying "He's probably the most inexperienced legislator in the state of Oregon...It just seems bizarre."

The group of legislators also met with Grasty, other local officials including the sheriff's office and the FBI.

A story was published on Yahoo News Saturday morning with these headlines.

"Burns, Ore. residents visit besieged land refuge, find common ground with Bundy movement.

As the federal land occupation hits day eight, locals visiting the besieged refuge find, 'They're cowboys. They're one of us.'"

The mother of the Bundy brothers at the protest site, Carol Bundy, sent an email to supporters on Saturday for supplies to be sent to the protest site.

She listed more than 80 items ranging from coffee to food to sleeping bags and wool socks.

Also word that Ammon, Mel and Ryan Bundy were away from the wildlife refuge on Sunday. They were said to be going to church.

There may be some newcomers on the scene as a reporter for ‘the Oregonian/Oregon Live’ estimated the other day by all the comings and goings observed.

Maybe their forgot their warm socks?

Link? I totally agree with these guys. But they need to get the guns out of there. Te Feds will start shooting first and claim it was in response to gunfire from the protestors. If the protestors are unarmed and the government thugs shoot, the Feds have lost the moral high ground and the National outrage will rise to heaven.

And what is to stop the Feds from shooting unarmed militia members and then claiming they were actually armed ? No ... the very definition of militia is ARMED citizenry. With your twisted logic we should all give up our guns and trust the gubermint ...

Matt Shea is awesome! So glad he went. He is an oathkeeper who went to the Bundy ranch standoff.

Oregon is open carry and Ammon is not allowing long guns on the site.

The optics have not been great, but I do believe that the Feds will be a little more careful in prosecuting these cases in future. The Feds need to realize that over-reaches will lead to backlashes such as this stand-off.

If they survive the Bundys should not get much if any punishment. If not, the protests against Federal tyranny will continue.

One source I use is “Oregon Live” which is the online presence of the “Portland Oregonian” newspaper.

They have five reporters in the area.

Portland television stations like KATU and KOIN have reporters there.

Oregon Public Broadcasting is also covering the situation.

They all have websites you can find with searches on Google and other engines.....
