I can see Cruz’s point.

I know a woman who was the victim of spousal abuse. Her a$$hole of a husband (now a$$hole of an ex-husband) routinely beat the crap out of her. He was eventually arrested and pleaded down to a non-felony charge, and was given some slip-on-the-wrist punishment. I wouldn’t want that a$$hole anywhere near a firearm.

I know, it’s anecdotal. But I can tell you that woman agrees with Ted Cruz 1000%.

Some guys have been screwed over by spurious charges of domestic abuse. Some deserved the charges.

I think the issue should be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

If illegals already in America are refusing to leave, merely shutting off benefits or prohibiting their legal employment will hardly be sufficient incentive to send them packing to the border.

And considering that it is impossible to know how many potential sleeper cell terrorists are embedded with all those illegals, a specialized deportation force is the ONLY way to be sure that potential risks to our national security are REMOVED and removed promptly, and with confirmation.

We already have two such forces - ICE and BP. Local and state are supposed to back them up. Make every agency would do it’s job and we won’t have this problem. Actually, you don’t need a deportation force. You do what the state of Oklahoma did. You make it illegal to hire them, transport them, and house them. And, you ENFORCE IT! You stop paying for their education and any other govt handout. When OK did this, an estimated 30k+ left the Oklahoma City area alone.

Yep. You just enforce the law. Make it the case that any illegal caught driving without license or insurance is held for deportation, and his car seized and sold (with revenue going to the seizing agency). Have ID's checked when they show up to enroll their kids or go on welfare. Any fake ID, and they are jailed and ineligible for bail.

Make it sufficiently unpleasant, and they will self-deport.

If she yells at you and you yell back, that's domestic abuse.

We already have women who hurt themselves so they can get hubbie jailed on a fake abuse charge.

Look at how the US DOJ includes in their legal definition of "domestic violence":

Let's say your wife asks you "Does this dress make me look fat?"

What’s wrong with that? When you’re convicted of a crime you lose lots of your rights. They can put you in jail. We don’t let felons be lawyers or teachers. Sex offenders are restricted by where they can live and work. Oftentimes felons can’t vote. If you’re convicted of a violent crime you should not be able to possess a gun. It’s the felons with guns who ruin it for all of us. Take away their guns. If they violate the restriction then put them back in jail where they belong. I think that if the guys Obama just sprung from federal prison got thrown back in jail for ten years because of gun possession then he would quickly reverse some of his support for gun control.

If you cut off their employment, and you cut them off from welfare, they will leave. Ordinary folks don’t like starving.

As for terrorists, we already have the FBI.

Sen. Cruz’ plan seems logical to me.

1. First, shut down the border. Make it secure. Stop the current flow of illegals.

2. Deny employment and welfare to those here illegally. If folks can’t work, if folks can’t get welfare, folks will starve. Folks who starve generally will move on to places they won’t starve.

3. Deport the known criminals as they come into contact with law enforcement.

4. Deport other illegal immigrants as they come into contact with government at any point.

5. Don’t let anyone back in who has broken our immigration laws.

The last point is important. Without it, we would encourage some folks to try to immigrate illegally. After all, there’s no long term penalty to it. And if we “expedited” folks back in, that would actually become a magnet for further illegal immigration, as those who immigrated illegally and were deported would have a jump over those who didn’t immigrate illegally and waited patiently for NON-EXPEDITED legal immigration.
