Texas Sen. Ted Cruz does not plan to authorize a special force to deport the undocumented immigrants currently in the country, he told CNN's Jake Tapper, setting up a policy contrast with Donald Trump.
Cruz, who over the past few weeks has specifically endorsed deportations after months of resisting, said in an interview that aired Sunday on "State of the Union" that the U.S. should catch those who came here illegally under normal law enforcement practices, not through round-ups of the estimated 11 million undocumented people living in the U.S.
"No, I don't intend to send jackboots to knock on your door and every door in America. That's not how we enforce the law for any crime," Cruz told Tapper as his campaign bus ambled across northern Iowa.
Trump has promised to authorize a "deportation force" to remove those immigrants from the U.S., pledging to do it "humanely." Trump has repeatedly charged that Cruz is merely copying his immigration positions, but Cruz has called his plan "the most aggressive" in the GOP field.
Earlier this week, BuzzFeed captured Cruz on video arguing that his plan was stronger than Trump's because he would not allow those back into the U.S., while Trump's would.
But on the actual act of deportation, Cruz is taking a softer tact.

You talked a good game but now your true colors are showing.
Tired of this shibboleth.
Start deporting those in jail - biometric them and enforce the border.
Set up a fraud center (voting, benefits, taxes, etc.) - this will strike at the very heart of the Democrat voting base.
'Cruz also said he did not believe those convicted of domestic abuse should be allowed to buy a firearm'
People either aren’t allowed to or won’t ask legal status for edu action, healthcare, social services, housing, jobs, etc., so most will still live on. If we denied benefits or asked for proof of legal status then that’s a start.
No need to create a new agency. Just let the existing agencies operate under the authority of existing immigration law.
What will you do with those already here ... that is the question I’ve wanted details on from all the candidates. What are you going to do and how are you going to do it?
It just seems to me that if a candidate can’t answer those questions, they really cannot be taken seriously about how they would be any different than the status quo.
Cruz is the best of the establishment candidates. But I am not going establishment this time. This time I have a choice.
Uh oh. Con I Ted instead of accused is good but these days throwing a banana or burrito is considered assault.
Actually, you don’t need a deportation force. You do what the state of Oklahoma did. You make it illegal to hire them, transport them, and house them. And, you ENFORCE IT! You stop paying for their education and any other govt handout. When OK did this, an estimated 30k+ left the Oklahoma City area alone.
And, my Oklahoma state income tax WENT DOWN the year after they did this.
Not understanding the ouch. Should people illegally residing in the US be allowed to buy guns?
Not trying to be argumentative ... I just don’t believe that folks here illegally should be able to possess guns.
He's talking about citizens not being able to exercise their rights after a domestic violence conviction.
“’Cruz also said he did not believe those convicted of domestic abuse should be allowed to buy a firearm’ “
3rd-wave feminists jump for joy. When they consider that a guy that lies about his wealth before a girl sleeps with him to be rape, then the threshold for domestic abuse is likely not going to be very high.
"I just don't believe that folks here illegally should be able to possess guns be here.
“You make it illegal to hire them, transport them, and house them.”
Yes, because making things “illegal” is the sure way to stop something...
Ask the people of Chicago hhow week people follow gun laws there.
Concur.
I hear Nebraska now has some pretty good Mexican food. /s
Oh ... sorry. When I read the article they seemed tied together. Thanks for clarifying.
Prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving financial benefits. On average, each household headed by an illegal immigrant in the United States receives over $14,000 in net government benefits per year, according to one study. This transfer of American taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrants entices further illegal entry. Under a Cruz Administration, illegal immigrants will cease receiving government benefits.

its a little silly to worry about this deportation thing. Only the criminals need to be escorted to the border or their homeland. Everyone else will leave when the jobs, education, and welfare benefits are cut off.
What he said was it was the current law...
