Trump: Cruz must get eligibility 'straightened out'
The Hill ^ | 1/9/16 | Bradford Richardson

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says it would be a risky move to give Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) the party's nomination for president amid questions about his eligibility.

"It's not a settled matter. He was born in Canada. And I say to Ted, and as a Republican I say it, because I think it's very important, you gotta get it straightened out," Trump told supporters at a rally in Clear Lake, Iowa, on Saturday.

He said it would be risky to nominate Cruz "because you cannot put somebody there folks who's going to go in, and he's going to be immediately sued by the Democrats because they're saying he was born in Canada and he's not allowed to run for president."

Trump said he thought only citizens born in the U.S. could run for president.

"And, honestly, I don't know, because some people say you have to be born on the land, OK?" he said. "You have to be born on the land. That's what I always thought before, you have to be born on the land. So he was born in Canada."

I see this as one of two things. Either Trump wants Cruz as vp and is afraid of this issue or he’s having to handle Cruz with kid gloves and this is is last resort.

I tend to go with #1 because there’s something between these two. Cruz isn’t just laying off Trump because he’s afraid of him, he’s gone after any other’s who have hinted at attack.

And Trump isn’t exactly skewering Cruz. Granted the citizenship thing looks like a real hit but like I said, if Trump wants Cruz for vp, he needs to be sure. Anyway, IMHO

Either way, better now than if Cruz were to win. There would be hell to pay from the left.

Mr Trump is trying to help Ted, yet all of Ted’s supporters have their panties in a bunch over this. What are they so worried about?

Am I to believe that Trump is scared of a lawsuit against Ted?

Seems like it. Or not, depending on what game DT might be playing

If true, such fear is a non starter.

Ted Cruz’s candidacy for POTUS will not be stopped by a lawsuit no matter what.

His candidacy won’t be stopped by fear of a lawsuit or something supposedly “hanging over his head”.

All of this is silly.

We know enough about this NOW.

Nothing is happening or will happen to make anyone run around like a scared, squawking chicken.

If DT is scared of lawsuits, causing him to act and talk in this manner about Ted, something is wrong with HIM not Ted.

If he’s pretending to be scared, the implications of such pretense are disturbing.

Why should a man with the education and experience and
brilliance and principles of Ted Cruz be second banana to
a real estate developer/reality star.

This is from a post to me in another related thread. The news clip is worth watching. This may be more of an issue than Ted Cruz wants to admit:

If Cruz is ineligible to be President he is also ineligible to be Vice President.

I think Trump is doing this to deflect attention away from his own dual nationality issues.
