Senator (Chris Murphy): Obama Just Wants to 'Put Some Parameters Around Existing Law' on Guns
PJ Media ^ | January 4, 2016 | Bridget Johnson

A senator who spent New Year's Eve tweeting every shooting that had multiple victims in 2015 is at the White House today to help President Obama craft his gun-control executive order.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) -- who tweeted as the San Bernardino terrorist attack unfolded, "Your 'thoughts' should be about steps to take to stop this carnage. Your 'prayers' should be for forgiveness if you do nothing - again" -- told MSNBC today that he didn't know what Obama had planned, but he's sure it will be legal.

"My belief is that he is well within his powers, the executive, to simply put some parameters around existing law," Murphy said. "Right now, existing law says that anyone who is engaged in the business of selling firearms has to conduct a background check. Well, the business of selling firearms has changed over the last 20 years. You now have individuals going to gun shows, selling firearms on the Internet, who might not have a bricks and mortar store but are essentially in the business of selling firearms just at trade shows and online."

Murphy added it would be "dangerous ground for Republicans" to battle the executive order.

"I'm sure that my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate will try to block his executive action. They will not succeed. They won't get the votes in the Senate, and even if they did, the president would veto it," he said.

It’s a pity there isn’t a counterbalancing senator who tweeted every time a criminal shooting occurred in a ‘gun-free zone’.

Let’s put some parameters around the 14th Amendment and end birthright citizenship.

it would be "dangerous ground for Republicans" to battle the executive order.

It is mandatory.

Why should it take a 2/3 majority to override a presidential EO?

All of this is about legitimizing the Executive Order(s) to forestall lower court decisions that will throw them up to the Supreme Court.

This “just throwing parameters around existing law” is bullshit. They are going to say they are clarifying the 1934 NFA or the weapons acts of 1964 or whatever, but the truth of the matter is that he is INSTRUCTING the ATF to modify its rules and interpretations which are not establish Law in the sense Congress approved it. It’s blatant BS.

The reason for this is the Executive Order. It is valid for “clarification of existing federal LAW” or it is a directive order to those agencies under his control. In this case, Obama is ordering the ATF and FBI (maintains the NICS) to change their INTERPRETATIONS, even in direct conflict with law.

It’s a directive that ultimately will have no teeth. I certainly am not going to consider it should I sell a weapon.

Why should it take a 2/3 majority to override a presidential EO?

Here are the general guidelines:

If the president is a demorat, he gets to do what he wants, no questions asked, with the full support of the repukelican congress, no matter how large a majority they have, their only job being to explain to the American sheeple why the repukelicans are doing-the-best-they-can/cannot-do-anything-else in this situation (eg everything suddenly needs a 2/3 majority).

If the president is a repukelican, he cannot do anything he wants, as long as there is a single demorat in opposition because that would mean not reaching across the aisle and being divisive.

Got it?

It is mandatory.

I'd feel a hell of a lot safer battling it than I would trying to enforce it.

This is showing the need to place parameters on EO’s. Probably won’t happen till 2017, but it will happen as a backlash to what’s going on.

The effect of an EO should not extend beyond the internal operations of the executive.

Oh the ‘republicans’ have been in tail between legs mode for some time now. It takes nothing for them to be scattered and run off. Theyre the biggest band of cowards ever assembled in DC. Guess who it was that hired them? Yup, the electorate. Theyre our problem and we need to own up to it and do the clean up. Until we do that nothing changes in a positive direction....

Do not blame the electorate for all of them. Look at Rubio. Elected as a Tea Party Republican, ends up like a Lincoln Chaffee Republican.

The Kenyan bastard doesn’t enforce our immigration laws. His new “executive action” bull**** “laws” need to be ignored by We the People the same way he ignores our immigration laws. At the same time, since we’ve chosen to go with dictators in this country, it’s time to shut down the House and Senate. Send those buffoons home. We don’t need them. It’s a waste of money. Turn the “Capitol Building” into something more useful like an Air & Space Museum annex.

I would disagree with the ‘grow up’ part.

But, incredibly stupid seems to be a requirement to be a Senator.
