Wasn’t Samuel L. Jackson in the “first” three movies?
I had no idea Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy) was white. I learn something new every day!
This makes Mace Windu cry.
The only people making a big deal about that character being portrayed by a black actor are leftists projecting their own racism on the rest of us. Period.
My response to this is "Yeah, Like Lando Calrissian didn't have a big part at all!" >:(
And Actually, that is one of the best Parts in The Empire Strikes Back.
Is the fact that even back in the 70's people were like "Where's all the Black People?"
So they had to include a black character.
Well, in Empire, they introduced Lando late in the story and he actually had a part to play in the story! (applause)
If The Empire Strikes Back was done today Lando would show up on Hoth 7 Minutes into the Movie Played by Marlon Wayans and would be like "WHOA! Hey, I'm Han's Wacky Black Friend Lando Calrissian, and I'm going to tag along on the Search for Luke out in the Frozen Tundra!"
What is the controversy?
Racism.
I haven’t heard that word mentioned for—————10 minutes.
(The beat goes on.)
.
What a crock o poo! The left has to invent crap to get mad about.
I am pretty sure I see orange, purple and other color aliens... how many of those are on Earth complaining
The reaction to having a black stormtrooper had nothing to do with racism. It was a gut reaction that they were messing around with the universe as badly as George Lucas did. Previously they established that all stormtroopers were clones of a guy who wasn’t black. As long as they came up with a rational explanation of why a black man can be a storm trooper in this movie, I am fine with it. Just don’t mumble something about midichorines, or I want my damn money back.
This crap happens every time a new Star Wars movie comes out. The first was a smash and since you couldn’t _see_ James Earl Jones doing the voice of Darth Vader, Leftist idiots just assumed no African Americans (or British Nigerians, or whatever) were involved. So Hollywood and Lucas made sure you actually _saw_ at least one in every film going forward and backward.
And yeah, Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu swings a light saber in two of the three prequels he’s in!
I love Denizel Washington in "Deja Vu", which was excellent science fiction.
He is also fantastic in the numerous fantasy roles in which he stared, such as "Book of Eli", and "Fallen", etc.
Will Smith was the star of "Independence day", which was a great movie, but I absolutely loved him in "I Robot."
Chiwetel Ejiofor was just about the most awesomest bad guy i've ever seen in a Sci-Fi movie. He combined sophistication and class, with awesome physical ability. I thought they should have caste him as James Bond. He would make an excellent Bond.
And who can forget Lawrence Fishburn as "Morpheus" in "The Matrix? Not the lead, but still a d@mn fine role.
Of Course, Vin Diesel ("Riddick") and "The Rock" ("Doom") are half black, but they have both done quite well as leading men in Sci-Fi roles.
And of course there is Samuel L. Jackson and Billy Dee Williams playing significant roles in Star Wars, but not really in leading roles.
I haven't seen the new Star Wars yet. I'll probably see it next week. I shall not be surprised to see a very excellent portrayal of the leading role by John Boyega.
I would like to go into occasions of other great black actors in leading science fiction roles but this message is long enough already.
I’m so ashamed. I’m such a horrible racist. I watched the whole movie - TWICE! - and never once gave a thought to the race of any of the characters.
What is my penance?
So what if one of the main characters in Star Wars is black? who gives a shit? Democrats do. Then they manufacture a controversy to “prove” how racist we are.
I am so sick of this shit.
