The “Star Wars†universe was a fixture in Patten Anthony’s childhood: He read the books, played the video games and caught the original movie trilogy when it aired on TV. Now at 29 years old, he’s especially excited that this week’s release of Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens†prominently features Nigerian-British actor John Boyega, whose appearance in the movie's trailers suggests he’ll play a pivotal role in the story.
“When I saw a black man with a light saber, I got a little hyped,†said Anthony, an African-American resident of Atlanta who works in information technology. “At first I thought, they’re just throwing us a bone — I didn’t realize that [Boyega] is a main character. It’s nice to see some people of color in leading roles."

I had no idea Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy) was white. I learn something new every day!
This makes Mace Windu cry.
The only people making a big deal about that character being portrayed by a black actor are leftists projecting their own racism on the rest of us. Period.
My response to this is "Yeah, Like Lando Calrissian didn't have a big part at all!" >:(
And Actually, that is one of the best Parts in The Empire Strikes Back.
Is the fact that even back in the 70's people were like "Where's all the Black People?"
So they had to include a black character.
Well, in Empire, they introduced Lando late in the story and he actually had a part to play in the story! (applause)
If The Empire Strikes Back was done today Lando would show up on Hoth 7 Minutes into the Movie Played by Marlon Wayans and would be like "WHOA! Hey, I'm Han's Wacky Black Friend Lando Calrissian, and I'm going to tag along on the Search for Luke out in the Frozen Tundra!"
What is the controversy?
I think we can all agree that William Shatner was the first black man of space, considering those ‘soulful’ renditions of songs he sang in the ‘60s..

There was a black space man in the original Planet of the Apes movie, but he got written out of the script pretty fast, leaving Heston to do all the heavy work.

3 I remember after the first Star Wars movie, an article in Jet magazine asked if Star Wars was racist because there were no black actors in it except for the voice of James Earl Jones.
