Exclusive: Trump lead among Republicans undiminished in first poll after Muslim comments

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Donald Trump held onto his commanding lead in the Republican race for the White House after his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States was condemned worldwide, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, the first national survey conducted entirely after the billionaire's remarks.

Trump led the pack of candidates seeking the Republican Party's nomination in the 2016 election with 35 percent of support from Republican voters, the opinion poll released on Friday found, the same lead he held before Monday, when he said Muslim immigrants, students and other travelers should be barred from entering the country.

Most Republican voters said they were not bothered by his remarks, though many said the comments could still hurt Trump's chances of becoming president. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans, who will pick the party's nominee for the November 2016 election, said they found Trump's remarks offensive against 64 percent who did not.

"He's really saying what everybody else is feeling," said Donna Fee, 57, a personal caregiver from Missouri. Fee, a Republican, said she supports Trump and agreed with his proposal to bar Muslims. But she said his bluntness could hurt him with other voters.

If bluntness and telling the truth to voters is “too offensive”, then this country is too sick to survive.

It’s one thing to be like Clinton and have the “media” give you a free pass when you say something “controversial”. It quite another thing when you say something “controversial” and We the People blow it off.

I have been thinking why is it when trump has supposedly made a faux pas and the media calls him to task his polling does not suffer but just about anyone else there polling numbers go down. I think the reason his goes up is that he does not make a mistake that a lot of politicians make of making a false apology or trying to claim he said something else. usually he will clarify what he has said and it is congruent to his previous statements and not a equivocation of what he has said before.

Typical MSM...they still are too stupid or complicit in treason to understand exactly what he said.

Trump—please don’t stop destroying the RINO’s play house.

I really do not understand why anyone other than liberal douchebags, yes that includes the GOP and everyone in the MSM including FOX, would think that Trump’s comments on the murderous ones would cause his numbers to go down.

Really, only the dumbest people of all time would want more muslims in this country.

Fee, a Republican, said she supports Trump and agreed with his proposal to bar Muslims. But she said his bluntness could hurt him with other voters.

This reminds me of the people that think their schools are good, but everyone else is bad. They feel this way because of the news.

or my personal economic situation is good, but everyone else is probably doing bad. They feel this way because of the news.

It seems that many people support Trump, but assumes many others do not because of the news.

I think Trump may have a lot of silent support and it will be an exciting race. This is why both the DNC and RNC are afraid of him.

" a mistake that a lot of politicians make of making a false apology "

I believe any apologies from Trump will be interpreted as a "See, we gotcha!"

Trump is now a movement. He represents years and years of pent up anger and resentment of the uniparty and the beltway big government shenanigans. Everyone is totally fed up. If the Trump movement and the Tea Party are hijacked, I honestly feel there will be an armed revolution in this country.

People are at a tipping point of being just about ready to offer their Lives, Fortunes and Sacred Honor to save our Sacred Republic. This is what the beltway doesn't get, how strong and endemic this movement is. I guess we're going to find out in 2016. . .

We live, as Levin says, in a soft tyranny. We have taxation and no representation. The Federal Government is the political arm of the democrat party. The democrat party is now the socialist/communist party. The MSM is their Pravda. Their goal is a worldwide socialist government with a collapse of nationalist nation states, including America.

We have to defend our sacred republic. We took an oath to defend our country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Will the ballot box still work or is it time to saddle up?

The candidates’ sanctimonious knee-jerk reaction to Trump’s Muslim statements makes me hate them with so much more intensity.

It’s been done and can be done to stop these unchecked muslim refugees from entering the USA. Congress just has to have a backbone to use their powers to override DUMBO. It the Feds can’t screen 2 San Bernardino terrorist, they can’t screen 200K refugees, that they are going to turn lose in your community to pay for them. Out of YOUR pocket1

Are liberals really this dense or is it the MSM that keeps them under water?

mr. Trump speaks truth to power....his delivery is that of 'New York rude' but aside from that he has hit the nations thirst for truth and not the insipid PC put out by the media or the political speak rhetoric by Josh Earnest mostly all proven lies...if you like your doctor etc. few trust this White House anymore than they could toss a grand piano out the window....Trump is providing the 'quarter-back' this leaderless nation so badly needs....anyone watch the hearings today in Washington today? no one is in charge of anything! it is as if our government has shut down...Obama has played golf or schmoozed with celebs rather than run the shop.

Thanks LucyT. Have just about had it here. You can just feel the anger with the people when they start talking politics. Years and years of seeing what's happening and feeling we can't do anything about it. We were naive and thought calling our congressman would help, that voting for a 'conservative' would help, that the politicians were 'doing the will of the people.'

We've all learned the naked truth over the last 10 years, especially that last 7. Now the democrats and GOPe are doing all they can to destroy Conservatism as a movement and Patriotic Americans along with it. Red-blooded Americans who still believe in the basics of family, God, our Sacred Republic and the 2nd Amendment are their targets. There are lots of us out here. Hey beltway, can you hear us now? You will next year for sure. . You want to play Cowboys and communists? Bring it on!

Are we going to let 10,000 people continue to run the United States of America?

Was the banning of Muslim immigrants and refugees by Saudi Arabia also similarly condemned?
