Ted Cruz: ‘I do not agree’ with Trump’s Muslim moratorium
WashTimes ^ | 12/8/15 | Seth McLaughlin -

GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.

"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I do not think it is the right solution.”

Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.

Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

At least not in this manner, not yet... however welfare schemes have been coerced to apply thus. Be careful, be very very careful. Not to lose our head or our pocketbook.

Interesting. I did not know that.

Of course, if Trump implements the policy we will be out of allies in Europe and the Middle East.

And that will certainly help ISIS.

Okay. But Ted Cruz could come up with a policy that would have the same affect without antagonizing the countries we have to work with.

They are all antagonized already. They need to stay in their own countries. No more muslims in the USA. They are a parasite that kills its host.

Well, he called for the ban or moratorium just “until our representatives sort it out”.
There are several bills in congress to do so.
So if there are glaring security holes in our immigration/visa process that the congress feels need to be addressed which is better?
To close down the faulty process until it is reformed or to continue the present acknowledged dangerous process?

There are different ways to cut off immigration from the areas in question. A total ban on Muslim immigration (even temporary) is something Britain, France and other countries we have to work with could have a real problem with.

Protecting the country is the first job.
Presumably the congress would come up with something acceptable to our allies.
If Obama had been responsible this would not even require consideration.
...

Cruz tweeted that if elected president, “I will shut down the broken immigration system that is letting jihadists into our country.”

I don’t know if I can do it justice now but the most amazing thing Trump did was step in front of Cruz on an issue Cruz should own. Just like what happened on immigration. The Cruz campaign drives me to drink.

The proof is this thread: “I do not agree with Trump’s moratorium.” That’s Cruz’s position. Trump’s position is to block all Muslims.

Cruz supports blocking refugees, however.

So, he will block some, but he won’t block others. The some he’ll support blocking are from Syria.

With this simple phrase Cruz loses all credibility he had with me. He is a corporate K-Street whore.

If you don’t agree with Trump, then you are A-OKAY with American blood running in American streets.

Why is that? I’ve had some great conversations and debates with people here on a whole range of topics. Yes, there is a strain of thinking that the days of accepting any compromises on conservative policy have passed us by, that we can only accept the purist, pure conservative on every issue. Any deviation, real or perceived, requires total rejection. So it seems with this Trump/Cruz divide.

But there’s an extra component here: Trump could hardly be considered a “pure” conservative. But his supporters seem quite willing to overlook these things, and especially his views in the past and defend him fiercely against any criticism.

You’re right. Trump knew the key words— deport and ban. So, though his history is clearly one of vacillation, and certainly likely still pro choice and for gay marriage— folks don’t care. In imo. it’s more likely than not that he won’t deport anyone nor ban anyone-— doesn’t seem to matter. HE spoke the magic words.

Rand Paul just had a bill banning Immigrants from Muslim countries with a strong terrorist component. Only 10 Senators voted for it. Cruz voted for it and Rubio voted against it.

A ban/moratorium on Muslims covers Muslims from anywhere on earth.

A bill banning Immigrants from Muslim countries with a strong terrorist component unfortunately bans Christians, Jews, Hindus, etc. who are being persecuted and killed along with the Muslims who are doing the persecuting and killing.

Wrong. Your idea of “proof” is as substantial as your candidate’s rhetoric.

So you are seriously arguing that Cruz is so backward that he is perfectly okay with dangerous refugees here as long as they're from certain countries? You're trying to sell that?

Oooohkay.

It’s like this Finny

If he supports banning Syrians until the vetting is fixed, but he doesn’t support Trump’s plan to ban all Muslims until the vetting can be fixed, then he supports allowing weakly vetted Muslims to enter the country.

You can argue with it all you want, but it’s pretty simple logic. They can sell that kind of illogical foolishness to sheeple on ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/FOX, but they can’t sell it to people who can think on their own.

I’d liken an effort here on the forum to a film character, but a lot of folks wouldn’t appreciate it to much. So instead I’ll just think of a little song in remembrance...

As sung by Hal9000: Daisy, Daisy...

Of course, if Trump implements the policy we will be out of allies in Europe and the Middle East. And that will certainly help ISIS.

And gain Putin as an ally and renew our relationship with Israel's Bibi as an ally. And that will certainly hurt ISIS.

Nonetheless, your eyes are wandering from what's more important, namely the well being of the American people.
