Ted Cruz: ‘I do not agree’ with Trump’s Muslim moratorium
WashTimes ^ | 12/8/15 | Seth McLaughlin -

GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.

"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I do not think it is the right solution.”

Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.

Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

Thanks! One of the great truth meters on FR are our Freepers when we by pass the lying mediots on both sides.

The only passports I know about (I live in Germany) are the fake ones they pick up in Turkey. They’ve been selling fake Syrian passports to everyone else since Germany said that was the only group which will get the 99-percent approval status on the immigration visa into Germany. I’ve noticed lately....some fake Greek passports being sold to people trying to make into Mexico or South American countries.

So when is Trump going to fire all the Muslims working in his many luxury hotels/condos/casinos? Since we're at war, you'd think he wouldn't want these ticking time-bombs around his fabulous employees. It's only a matter of time before every Muslim goes full jihad right?

It would be interesting to see Trump put his money where his mouth is regarding Muslim immigrants.

While Cruz hasn't gone nearly as far as most of us would like, he already has put his money where his mouth is, as a Senator, in that he's got legislation in the works to "place an immediate moratorium on refugees from countries with a significant al Qaeda or ISIS presence, such as Syria." Cruz has been advocating for stopping Syrians since early September.

I know, I know, "legislation! what a laugh!" And he didn't list 47 countries by name, or signify Mohammedan immigrants. But it's the money he has to offer as a way to prove his mouth, and he's been laying that money down for awhile.

How about Trump? Where was he in early September? How many Muslim employees has he fired or shooed off his properties? Does that mean Trump is opposed to Cruz's anti-Syrian refugee efforts? Of course not. Yet Trump supporters are jumping to all kinds of conclusions by what Cruz didn't say compared to what Trump did say. It's all about Trump. Even when it's about Cruz.

Trump is a hot-headed CEO style patriot, and old. Cruz is a cool-headed Constitutionalist conservative patriot, and young.

I know which one I think holds the best promise for America.

we should ban the burka too.

Nah, wrong solution and unless limited to states, counties, and/or municipalities, unconstitutional, much as I hate the things, and believe me -- I become livid with rage at the site of a burka, like many American women. Burka wearers spit in the face of every U.S. veteran who ever lived or died. Burka wearers should leave America because it is the wrong place for them.

You want a better solution? Make it LEGAL for people to discriminate against burka wearers, hijab wearers, overt Muslims. Make it legal for landlords to say, "Go somewhere else." Make it legal for restaurants and stores to say, "We don't serve your kind." Make it legal for parents to say, "We don't want Muslims around our kids in school." Sure, there would be areas where they found shelter -- but it would be tough and they would be on defense.

If they want to live in America, then they live here on American terms. Otherwise, they leave.

It's the Christian way and the Constitutional way. The right to peaceful, civil discrimination is God-given and the key to peace. ONLY government, that great salve-all and solve-all, has caused the lopsided mess we have now, where veterans who risked their lives for America are frisked by Muslim immigrant security agents in airports.

The Constitution is where the solutions to our problems lie. Cruz knows the Constitution.

I enjoyed Charles Krauthammer tonight on Special Report. Seeing as how Trump will be asking anyone who comes into the country if they are Muslim and they all will reply, “ No, Im Episcopalian” Charles said someone has suggested using a ham sandwich test ( or a BLT test) to insure that they are not Muslims. Those who do not finish the sandwich are sent home...we might get a few devout Jews in there too but its a start.

Amen brother! This election seems to be a battle between God and whatever we call the Devil! It looks like Trump is getting raised up to a role he never envisioned when he set out. But that doesn’t matter if God envisioned it.

Rand basically supported Trump this morning on Faux News.

Well, well, well, the shoe is on the other foot tonight with the Trump supporters taking his words about of context.

Seems hypocritical of them to have already accused me of making up lies and saying things that Donald Trump didn’t say, while yet ? On the same token they come on this thread and spew their lies, misquotes, taking Ted Cruz’s words out of context.

Seems the most ardent Trump supporters are making liars AND hypocrites of themselves here on this thread by lying about what Ted Cruz actually said.

"You’ll never be sure until they show up at work and shoot up a party just like Farook did."

Grim reality versus chanting and singing Feel Good Kumbaya bs.

Cair members are Moderate Muslims. What is the difference between Moderate Muslims and Radical mass murdering Jihadists?

The only difference in a moderate Islamist and a radical Islamist is tactical advantage. Once they think they have it, it is jihad time for all.

Coexist's reality today!

In countries where Muslims are the minority they are obsessed with minority rights. When they are in the majority, there are no minority rights.

.

significant al Qaeda or ISIS presence

Why is Ted Cruz (partially wrong) on this ?

It should include ALL Moslems entering the United States ...

until ... as Donald Trump says ...

a more accurate screening method is developed.

You don’t even get the point of Amazing Grace which continues “And grace MY FEARS RELIEVED.”

Fear is a warning. It is not an everlasting goad. That latter usage is Satan’s. Hence the concept of terrorist.

I leave it to you as exercise to find the scripture corresponding to this, incidentally. It exists. Do you fear God enough to find it?

Ted is a big time weasel. Career politician that is being exposed for what he always has been. The contrast between he and Trump is stunning. Trump is the real deal and a leader. Cruz is not. Ted, true to form, runs to the Senate to draft a meaningless bill that has no chance of passing and which if it did, would solve nothing, all the while claiming he’s fighting for us. But Cruz supporters don’t see Ted’s half measures for what they are. Trump is the only candidate that has a chance to fix this country. The rest, including Cruz are pretenders.

Yes.
8 USC §1182: Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate (emphasis added).

It may be unpopular or it may not be.
The courts have recognized his and congress’s plenary powers here.

The polarization is palpable here :-)

In trying to be “conservative” (without a reference beyond) there is more and more “liberal” (or rather, illiberal) behavior.

The actual story of the battles of mankind is that of rises and falls and teamwork, as the Lord God acts from beyond the scene according to how people are prepared and what they choose.

I warned folks a long time ago about putting Ted on a pedestal. Now that he is not pedestal material, others want to put Ted in the trash. Both of these are wrong. True enough only one person could be “President” but are we wanting a king or an equitable administrator with a bold side when it came to protecting the people? George Washington did pretty well as both. Maybe Trump is more Washington-like than we realize, perfect oh heavens no, but God doesn’t need our perfect to express His perfect.

I know nobody likes an “I told you so.” But it wasn’t really me that could have told you all this. It was the Lord. I just heard it on His grapevine.

Eugene Volokh has a commentary on it if you’re interested:
