Why is that? I’ve had some great conversations and debates with people here on a whole range of topics. Yes, there is a strain of thinking that the days of accepting any compromises on conservative policy have passed us by, that we can only accept the purist, pure conservative on every issue. Any deviation, real or perceived, requires total rejection. So it seems with this Trump/Cruz divide.

But there’s an extra component here: Trump could hardly be considered a “pure” conservative. But his supporters seem quite willing to overlook these things, and especially his views in the past and defend him fiercely against any criticism.

You’re right. Trump knew the key words— deport and ban. So, though his history is clearly one of vacillation, and certainly likely still pro choice and for gay marriage— folks don’t care. In imo. it’s more likely than not that he won’t deport anyone nor ban anyone-— doesn’t seem to matter. HE spoke the magic words.
