Ted Cruz: ‘I do not agree’ with Trump’s Muslim moratorium
WashTimes ^ | 12/8/15 | Seth McLaughlin -

GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.

"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I do not think it is the right solution.”

Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.

Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

Pakistan, also not on the list of ‘terror’ nations.

I don’t agree with throwing the Christians in the Middle East to the lions just because we want to be “politically correct” and ban their entire country instead of the people who are the actual problem, the Muslims. This is like when Kim Davis refused to give licenses to regular couples just so she could avoid giving them to same-sex couples without looking like she was “discriminating.” That’s not the right solution. It’s the classic case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It is simply the right and moral thing to accept Christian or Jewish refugees who are being slaughtered by Muslims.

I’m not opposed to another “Great Pause” on immigration. Gut all the gov’t bennies and get some of the lazy, Jerry Springer viewers off their asses and into the workforce. I’m more than convinced this country could be completely self-sufficient if we had the proper leadership.

He said, “Such as Syria....”. If I’m not mistaken, the U.S. has held the view that Pakistan is one of those “such as” places since 2011.

“...put a three-year moratorium on refugees to the United States from Syria, Iraq and any other country where the land is “substantially controlled” by a terrorist group.”

The substantially controlled part is what is disturbing. All muslim countries are substantially controlled by terrorist groups as they are all muslim countries. It becomes redundant.

On this issue, Trump is right. Cruz can be as nuanced as he wants but sometimes just being straightforward works best. Muslims immigrants are bad. Keep ‘em out.

Only partially debunked. Islam is NOT a major player in Japan and has had limited success.

How many jihadis are the Saudis flying in daily...

That's a fact. Worse, how many are already here?!

It’s time to quit playing who’s an acceptable proxy and who’s not.

Even when it came to Osama Bin Ladin where was he hiding. In Pakistan’s army’s back yard. If someone hadn’t gotten disgusted enough with him to tip off the Yanks....

Nod, wink city.

That said, there is an awake-spirit answer to the problem.

How is it unreasonable and worthy of condemnation for us to implement the same security policies that Israel does and which are quite effective? Israel definitely does not let in any Muslim who wants to come there. This idea that it is “politically incorrect” or essentially immoral to want to control our borders is why Trump has gotten as far as he has in this campaign.

If this is the thing that forces it because it’s politically unpalatable to make perceptive exceptions, it COULD be worse.

now there’s the word moratorium

the initiative has been taken from Obama with the use of this word.

the discussion, the deal negotiation if you will, has enteded a new phase.

the question becomes how many for how long

I see the real possibility of Obama throwing a temper tantrum and trying to ban CHRISTIANS from travel/immigration rather than muslims. That sounds crazy, but it’s NOT unlikely coming from him.

Christians who are always looking behind them for boogiemen are not going to accomplish much. The bible is clear and no this is not just some parable, some metaphor for human effort. God watches the back of those who believe in Him.

God has used [and still does] a lot of flawed men to work out His plans.

None of us can know what plans He has for Trump.

Considering that the screaming heads are now calling him a “religious zealot/bigot”, maybe his conversion is not far behind.

You mean like the French Muslims, that are French citizens?

Ban French Muslims and you'll have major problems with France -- who, Muslim or not, a French passport not being honored would be a severe diplomatic insult. We would be inviting retaliation against American passport holders.

Practically speaing, allied nations are obligated to trust each others' vetting of their own citizens.

The fact is, as President, Trump would take a different stance -- more akin to Cruz' proposal.

Oh, hey - that’s just a dandy plan, Ted ... So when ISIS members emigrate to other Islamic countries, stay for a while, and then come here from, oh let’s say Jordan or Egypt - or perhaps MEXICO ... Then what, genius? As has been stated elsewhere - Ted Cruz is a Beta lightweight, who likes to parse in lawyerese B.S. No thanks, Senator Cruz ... America needs a LEADER, not a “lawyer.”

“What is wrong with that picture?”

Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim; His Adviser is a Muslim, and many of his appointees into very sensitive positions are members of the Muslim Brotherhood. We have traitors in high places.
