Mother of boy shot dead denies spending donated funds on new car
WLS By Evelyn Holmes Saturday, November 07, 2015 10:56PM CHICAGO (WLS) -- The mother of a 9-year-old boy shot to death earlier this week is being accused of spending money donated through a "Go Fund Me" effort intended for funeral expenses on a new car.
Karla Lee is strongly denying the claim Saturday night and commenting on those who have taken to social media to criticize her.
The mother of slain Tyshawn Lee says it's simply not true. She said she did not use money donated to help pay for her son's funeral to buy a new car.
"Y'all don't know nothing about me," she said. "For y'all to be bashing me like that, and I just lost my child."
Lee is defending herself after heavy criticism on social media accusing her of using donated money from a GoFundMe page. While she admits to buying a car, she says she used her own money to make the down payment for the 2015 Chrysler 200.
The emotional 26-year old says she bought the car to protect herself so she wouldn't become a target by walking or taking the bus.
"I told them I was scared and I was fearing," she said. "Too bad if y'all don't understand that."

Example. 2015 Chrysler 200 Not actual car purchased by mother of dead boy.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
This brood mare really sounds distraught.
Chicago.
———.
Not really surprised.
Tyshawn's dad knows who killed Tyshawn. He's not cooperating with the investigation.
However, be that as it may the a nine year old boy was killed for nothing.
By the way I note that the outfit helping to set up the fund "takes a cut" of the donations. Good Lord EVERYBODY has their hand out for a fee.
BLM unless cash is involved.
If they want to kill her too, it doesn't matter if she's driving a brand new car, a used car, taking the El, taking the bus, taking an Uber, taking a gypsy cab, riding a bike, a Segway, or a hoverboard.
Her claim that she bought a new car out of abject fear is ridiculous - especially since a new car invites carjacking in her community.
Of course GoFundMe charges a fee. So does Western Union, Moneygram, PayPal, etc. They're not in the business of giving away their services for free.
As Chicago Alder-woman Carrie Austin put it in 2000. “I want 40 acres and a Lexus. You can keep the mule.”
GoFundMe takes a fee as does the company that handles the funds and pays it out.
I'm sure the funeral home got paid as well. As did whoever made the casket. The suit Tyshawn was buried in, somebody paid for that.
GoFundMe is a business. Managing a website, processing sales, dispersing funds requires time and effort. Should they give their services away for free?
Money is fungible
They don't do the pay out. Another company does and they also take a percentage, not a flat fee.
I noticed the Media basically glossed over that the ‘motive’ may have involved the boy’s father’s association with a gang.
OK, I'm not familiar with the intricacies of GoFundMe's business operation but, clearly, they provide a service. My point was only that I don't believe GoFundMe is somehow morally wrong to charge a fee for the service they provide, whatever exactly this service entails.
“Y’all don’t know nothing about me,” she said. “For y’all to be bashing me like that, and I just lost my child.”
Perhaps she’s referring to part of the grieving process we hadn’t known about. Along with denial, anger, and depression is the BRAND NEW CAR!!! Stage of grieving.
We should be ashamed for not being more sensitive to baby momma in her time of loss.
