On Tuesday night, three of the officers stopped an SUV driven by 25-year-old Christopher Few, claiming they were pursuing a warrant, Edmonson said earlier Friday. âNo warrant has materialized,â he said.
The officers, later joined by a fourth, trapped Fewâs vehicle at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Taensas Street in Marksville, a crossing allowing through traffic, contrary to some reports that said it is a dead-end.
Investigators found evidence of at least 18 rounds fired from two officersâ weapons in the direction of Few and his young son, Edmonson said earlier Friday, adding that there was no gun in Fewâs SUV.
Few remains in critical condition, Edmonson said. He declined to say if the other two officers fired any shots, which of the lawmen initiated the chase or why, and whether the body camera footage police are now analyzing captures the entire event or only the aftermath.
Edmonson also said he couldnât confirm reports that Few tried to back his vehicle into the officers.
The cops said he had a warrant outstanding, but last reports I read said they could find no warrant on him.
Agreed. Too many cops out of control, as there are many incidents of unwarranted killings of citizens by rookie cops. Too aggressive, too quick to shoot to kill. Bad training or lack thereof.
Not always the case. There was an incident some five blocks from my home in August, here in South San Francisco. A guy was brandishing a shotgun outside a middle school (the school my kids had attended long ago). Cop showed up, told him to put down the weapon. Guy pointed the shotgun at the cop, and the cop shot him in the leg and got him to drop the shotgun. Turns out the guy had suicidal thoughts and was looking for death by cops. Although the guy had several serious charges against him, last week it was reported that he won't do time, but is receiving counseling and will be on probation. A bad situation defused by a seasoned police sergeant.
Here’s the local Gannett rag’s story. Marksville, LA is near Alexandria.
Unfortunately for this poor family, this tragic incident isn’t in Black Lives Matter’s bailiwick.
I’ll wager right now there’ll be no outrage coming from them, nor from Quentin Tarentino.
May God be with the family of the poor boy.
There are huge numbers of comments in the Louisiana newspaper comments sections. Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria.

Smith, along with officers Stafford and Greenhouse, are among the targets of a federal use-of-force lawsuit filed in July by Ascension Parish resident Ian Fridge, who said he was tackled by officers, who also used a stun gun on him, in Marksville last year at an Independence Day festival. A gun rights advocate, Fridge said he was grabbed from behind by officers while openly carrying a weapon as the lawmen taunted, âyouâre definitely not a local boy,â according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. Fridge also said the officers took his cellphone and deleted his recording of the incident.

cops gone wild
Louisiana law enforcement sounds a little disorganized to say the least.
These guys sound like the constables we have here in Texas. On the whole, they are reasonably professional, but they also have a few that I would not trust to be a mall cop.
Story getting huge coverage here in Louisiana. Newspaper and TV comments sections are crackling. No way this gets swept under the rug.
If this is such sensitive territory, with fear of tainting a jury etc, why would the Chief and others after viewing the video, come out and *publicly* state it was the worse video he's ever seen while charging them with murder?
Did millions in public not already hear how bad this is by the Chief himself?
At this point in the case, with an active investigation, the video is exempt from Louisiana’s Public Record Law. However, once any of the evidence is filed in court, then it will be a public record.
As far as a tainted jury, I suspect any defense attorney worth his salt is already preparing motions to have the case moved. But I don’t know where else they could hold the trial, as the coverage is high profile all over the state.
If there's a criminal trial let's hope that the jury reaches a rational, and just,verdict...regardless of what that verdict might be.
If there's a civil trial...ditto.
That was scary close! Good defense work by the officer in that case. In this one, I have to wonder what threat the 6-yo kid buckled in the front seat posed to the officers. Sad case all around - many lives affected here.
Get a drink from the ice box.
When will people adopt the proper nomenclature?
Do you know if the LEO’s knew or had knowledge the kid was in the vehicle?
Very few details here outside of the LEO’s themselves saying the video/circumstances of the shoot look really bad.
That’s alright. Video, film, tape, footage, it’ll take another 10 or so years for folks to forget about film era terms.
We all know what the poster means and that’s what counts.
I actually never know what to call them. I usually settle for video.
That’s it...Video, videoed, etc.
Do not know.
