I had read that as well. That's why I always thought it was a bomb that some Islamic Militant had snuck on to the aircraft.
It's the ground crew people. Watch the Egyptians find them floating in the Nile at some point.
That is all well and good, but the video that was posted was obviously a fake.
Islamic terrorism may have been the cause, maybe even a missile - but that video was most certainly not any evidence of it. And if ISIL or one of its affiliates used a surface to air missile of any kind, why would they post an obvious fake video when they could have shown the real thing?
I’d still guess it was either an accident or a bomb. I don’t think we should totally discount the possibility that the plane was just not maintained well and had a catastrophic failure. More and more it looks like a bomb if you believe the various news reports, but I don’t think that is definitive right yet.

I can’t wait to see the REAL ‘shock & awe’ that Putin is probably working on as we speak. Muslims are going to have their faces melded to their prayer rugs after he’s done with them.
A bomb in the tail has more psychological impact because it shows depth of planning, having a mole on the inside perhaps.. Lots of fear of the unknown. Perhaps a luggage swap? A SAM requires knowledge of flight schedule and good target acquisition, that is all.

Sorry, no MANPAD goes to 31-36000 feet. Igla-S which was the Russian MANPAD taken in quanity from libya only goes to 16K feet.
MANPAD and SAMs are not the same - one is aunched from the shoulder, the other is truck mounted with radar tracking. The Russia Buk system, a SAM, was one such which shot down the plane over the Ukraine.

Okay, the systems you describe also paint an elint signature for anyone around to see. They're not point-and-shoot, they're guided. You're saying no one in the area got ears on that? Russians, Western govts, Israel? No one?

Nor was the video shaky enough to convine me they shot a 30000 foot high aircraft
If the video is real, they used a tripod and no smoke showed from the middle, because no missile at that range would be smokeless, needs too much fuel for speed and range
