GOP Suspends NBC Debate Because Questions Might Be Too Hard
New York Times ^ | 10-30-15 | Jaime Fuller

Posted on 11/02/2015 8:07:56 AM PST by Alfred O. Bama

A few days after the CNBC presidential debate -- which the GOP campaigns called "horrendous," "stupid," and "ridiculous" -- the Republican National Committee has decided to suspend its plans to let NBC News host a debate on February 26....

Priebus also noted that the "moderators engaged in a series of 'gotcha' questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates' policies and ideas."

He did not add that the American people would have also gained a fuller portrait of the candidates' ideas if they had not evaded, ignored, or lied in response to many of the actual policy questions they were asked, and he didn't note that the idea that a "gotcha" question includes the entire universe of queries that could point out the weaknesses of a campaign is a disputed one. He also did not explain whether the fact that his party's candidates were not able to correctly answer the first question of the debate -- What is your biggest weakness? -- disqualified them from being able to complain about debate etiquette.

The RNC might not have had a choice in sacrificing NBC at the altar of Saint Sweaty Nixon, the god of all those embarrassed by unexpected debate inquisitions and aftermaths....

This is also not the first time that candidates have complained about moderators asking questions they'd rather not have to answer. When candidates feel like they did lousy, it's much easier to blame the media than yourself....

A side note: I'm flying into DC, so I won't be logging back in here for a while. Anybody know a good place to get dinner at National Airport?

I thought the candidates fired the RNC from the debate business?

Aren’t liberals so cute when they play make believe they are relevant? Could you just squeeze the cheeks of the halfwit who wrote this?

Ya mean questions like Are you a comic book villain? The libs are buggin’ because they see the handwriting on the wall. They won’t be able to distort the connection between the candidates and the American people and their about to pee their pants.

Presidential debates used to have some dignity and respect attached to them. Think Kennedy v. Nixon; Ford v. Carter. The media had some sense of propriety. But come to think of it, back then we didn’t have nationally televised cage matches including a whole pack of candidates before the first caucus or primary had even taken place. Let the media vent. I won’t watch them.

No. It’s because the questions asked are too stupid.

I read that whole thing and talk about liberal slant. The whole point of the NBC debate conversation is about liberal bias. And here they’re using liberal bias to explain liberal bias. Unbelievable.

Well, Katy bar the door. Does Rinse Prius think the previous two debates were any better?

I want identical debate questions for GOP and DEM...same amount of time for each candidate...same venue...same moderators.

The Republicans candidates are upset because of the questions that have been asked that nothing to do with the issues?

Starting with Megan Kelly; and this last debate, Jeb Bush was asked about ‘fantasy football’...is that important to the issues of our country? As Christie put it, with all of the immigration problems, the economy, the healthcare, do you really think we have time to talk about ‘fantasy football?’

The moderators are idiots beyond belief, I think we should have ‘are you smarter than a fifth grader’ come in and ask questions, they probably know more about our issues than the stupid people we have now asking questions!!!

Actually, if they just picked out some muffler repair guy, a Piggly Wiggly clerk, and some retired Dodgers pitcher...I’d be satisfied and not question the stupidity of some journalist.

Liberal standards for political debates:

For Dem candidates, as close to an appearance on The View as possible.

For GOP candidates, as close to WWE as possible.

Cruz hit the nail on the head with his “cage match” observation.

Dear ass clowns in the “Media”

Did you bother to read the moronic questions you “Journalists” read in the 1st three debates?

There are NO serious questions being asked. No “tough questions”, jist “let me show off for my fellow journalist” clown questions.

Try asking serious issue based questions instead of your moron attacks pretending to be a question and the American people MIGHT take you seriously again.

Actually can't recommend anything at National. One of the worst airports in the world. But for what it's worth, this link will provide you with a pdf map of retailers and eateries:
