Yet Another Republican Speaker from a Democrat State!

Posted on 10/29/2015 8:22:24 AM PDT by cotton1706

Paul Ryan - Wisconsin

John Boehner - Ohio

Dennis Hastert - Illinois

And of course we have Kevin McCarthy from California and Sally McMorris-Hyphen from Washington.

Only Steve Scalise is from a Republican state, and they'll protect him from removal with their runoff procedure.

An insulated leadership, free from the pressures of removal from power by conservatives. They've protected themselves from another Eric Cantor event happening.

So by this reasoning, if someone comes from the Midwest he is not qualified to serve as Speaker?

The Midwest is the historic home and heartland of the GOP.

Ohio has a a Republican Senator, a Republican House and Senate, a Republican Governor and every state wide office is held by a Republican. It does however suffer from serious fraud in presidential elections coming from the Eastern and Southern districts around Cleveland.

I understand this argument, but the fact is that the facts are wrong.

I would consider Ohio to be a swing state at worst, certainly not a Democrat state.

You are singing my tune, kiddo.

One of the things I most despise about the GOP system of choosing “leaders” is that there is NO requirement that any of them hail from a state that went GOP in the last election. This is 90% of the problem with GOP leadership, IMO.

You’ll note that Jim Matheson of UT never had a leadership role or chairmanship under Pelosi, right?

How is it even remotely possible that not one member of the first tier leadership team is from, say, Texas — the only state keeping us from complete left wing Democratic rule in this country?

It would be wonderful to see him primaried like Dave Brat did Eric Cantor. That was brilliant and even though it may be too late for this year, he might find himself in that position in two years. Virginia is a mixed bag as far as blue or red, but so is Wisconsin. I think enough people are waking up to see that the republicans are selling us down the tubes for political advantage of their own. They might even be willing to vote in a democrat this year and start with a fresh republican face for 2018. Any from WI here?

Columbus, which not so long ago elected Republican mayors as a matter of routine, has turned into a corrupt liberal sh!thole over the past 15-20 years. Franklin County as a whole has gone completely over to the “dark” side electorally and is well on its way to doing so literally as well.

“So by this reasoning, if someone comes from the Midwest he is not qualified to serve as Speaker?”

I didn’t say anything about qualifications. I’m pointing out how the Establishment holds power. All the leadership positions are from areas where conservatives cannot remove them from office. That’s intentional. There are lots of moderate republicans who just LOVE republicans who “work across the aisle” to “get things done,” liberal things, that is.

And Boehner has seeded all the committee chairmanships with the same protections.

Gingrich was the only speaker from the conservative south. And he, along with Tom Delay and Dick Armey, both from Texas, actually changed things. Hastert, Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, McMorris-Hyphen, Ryan, all go-along types from the old-style Bob Michael school of republican governance.

What do you expect? It is loaded with unionized government workers.

In today’s Illinois news, Hastert is pleading out with hopes of only getting 6 months in prison, although the judge said he could go for up to 5 years.

Not to defend him, but Hastert does seem like a broken man, or at least a good actor.

Well, Wisconsin is more accurately described as a swing state but, nevertheless, your point is well taken.

Well, I’m in a solid Republican state, Georgia, and I can tell you the main man here considering a run was Rep. Lynn Westmoreland. He wouldn’t be any better.

But that’s probably not a terribly different situation than existed in the 1990s and earlier (big govt. + big liberal university have always been there), but the election results are much different now than they were then, though the decline became noticeable as early as 1996 when Franklin voted in favor a second term for president Billy Jeff Blowjob after having voted Rat for president just one time in the previous 13 elections.

Ohio is not a Democratic State; although there are some strong Democratic districts. Boehner was not in one. He was in one of the most hard-core Republican Districts.

Well we all know what to expect from Ryan. I just think that there was not another person willing to run that could get 218 votes so they got stuck with Paulie. There are only 50 or so conservatives in the whole House of Representatives. Most of the GOP reps are moderates. They are fine with Ryan.

Wisconsin has a Republican Governor and a Republican majority in the legislature. Why do you call this a “Democrat state”?

It has allot to do with the explosion in state government over the 80’s and 90’s due to our buddy Dick Celeste and his massive increase in state budgets and the unionization of state workers.

The three top employers in Columbus are the State of Ohio with 26,000, THE Ohio State University with 17,000 and the Federal Government with 13,000. Five of the top 10 employers and six of the top 11 are government entities.

The total number of government workers dwarfs the number of private sector workers, particularly when you realize the next three employers are financial resources and insurance companies, organizations that are heavily regulated by government and rely strongly on government influence. more than 60% of employees to the top ten employers in Columbus work for either the state, county or federal governments. All are unionized.

“Republican” and Paul Ryan don’t really belong in the same sentence! He is really no better than who he follows. What happened to the whole motive for pushing Boehner out the door?

When will the GOP learn the definition of insanity? They continue to do the same thing expecting different results...
