The irony is that Pakistan today is more liberal than people think, and many of the Pakistani communities in the west are based on values rooted in the 1950s.

Not suggesting its all liberal, but british tv did an excellent programme which looked at Pakistan 2014 vs Pakistani communities 2014, and found that the country itself is moving to more liberal values than the diaspora. It even has gay and transgender TV personalities. Unthinkable in the diaspora.
