Jeb Bush's frustration and loathing on the campaign trail

The presidential candidate who once promised to run a "joyful" campaign appeared overcome by frustration this weekend, amid poor polling figures and dwindling campaign funds.

Not long ago, he was calling himself a “joyful tortoise”. But over the weekend the image Jeb Bush, once presumed heir to the Republican nomination for the White House, had insisted his campaign present of calm, cheerful optimism finally disappeared.

A day after being forced to slash his staff, a rattled Mr Bush took to the stage on Saturday night at a rally in what should be safe territory for him, the staunchly Republican state of South Carolina.

In contrast to his early promise to be “joyful” and determined, if slow off the mark, in response to the eccentric, angry insurgency of the maverick Donald Trump, he denounced his rivals, the tone of the contest and even the party’s followers.

. . . he denounced his rivals, the tone of the contest and even the party’s followers.

What do they mean "even the party’s followers"? Jeb Bush essentially declared war on them when he came out for amnesty and decided he didn't need them.

The campaign is also planning to push slogans including “Jeb Can Fix It” ....

Oh good grief. I’m sure being Mr. Fix It will totally set his campaign on a winning trajectory .... NOT.

If Jeb can fix it, how come he paid someone $1.3M to fix his finances?

Sorry Mr. Bush. We are in so much trouble as a nation, that the ‘aw shucks’ approach to getting votes is not enough anymore, not nearly enough. Many voters of today didn’t know you from your days as a governor. You don’t give them much new or gamechanging to think about from your presentation thus far.

Yeb has gone from “Joyful” to downright nasty, with a Yuge sense of
entitlement. I don’t see how he recovers.

The campaign is also planning to push slogans including "Jeb Can Fix It" and emphasise "experience over experiment" as Mr Bush seeks to catch up with Mr Trump.

Whoa - I can feel the very blood coursing through my veins at that level of inspiration. If Yeb needs a couple more staffers to fire I'd humbly suggest whoever came up with those clunkers. Were I inclined - and I'm not - to issue forth from my warm home in the November sleet to go door to do for that pasty-faced nonentity it sure as hell wouldn't be with "Jeb Can Fix It" ringing in my ears.

You can tell, you really can, when a candidate surrounds himself with earnest marketeers and psych majors who have never gotten their boots muddy in their lives, intent on such buzz-word distractions as optics and sloganeering hermeneutics. Hillary has a whole team of them. In fact, if it can be codified onto a bumper sticker it probably isn't particularly sound intellectually - "Arms Are For Hugging" and "CoExist!" come to mind - nor do I except "Make America Great Again!" but for the plain fact that it's one hell of huge improvement over "Jeb Can Fix It" and Trump probably didn't pay a marketing research company a few million to come up with it.

Indeed. That whole pathetic avatar of Lincoln tableau when he gave his petulant “I have cooler things to do” declamation. Vomit inducing.

As I, as a Yankee, understands it, that is an uncomplimentary turn of a phrase, for someone that we up north would just call, an idiot.

It might be more complicated than paying “someone” ... it was “someones”. Did you see this thread? Total combined payments to Heather Larrison, the Larrison Group, and LKJ LLC during 2015 from the Jeb Bush campaign and the Right to Rise USA SuperPac are more than $1.3 million.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3352487/posts

According to federal campaign law, SuperPACs associated with candidates are prohibited from coordinating campaign messaging with the candidate’s campaign. In some cases with various fundraising personnel, federal law allows people to support both the campaign and a Super PAC for a candidate as long as the efforts are separated by strict firewalls and various legal restrictions are followed.

While the arrangement between Larrison, The Larrison Group, LKJ LLC, the Jeb Bush campaign, and the Right to Rise USA SuperPAC may be legal, it is hard to imagine that the Bush campaign team will not have to offer a lucid explanation for this arrangement at this weekend’s emergency meeting in Houston.
