Ridicule as a Key Technique of Thought Reform
Freep | 10-18-2015 | Charles O'Connell

Posted on 10/18/2015 7:44:02 AM PDT by CharlesOConnell

All that's necessary to assure our compliance is shaming us into silence.

Our best hope for substantial political change in the past generation was Sarah Palin. When she self-imploded during her Iowa Freedom Summit address last January, what we saw was, not just a personal failure of nerve, but the sure-thing, efficient result, the calculated application of ridicule as one of the key techniques of thought reform. The more one examines this field of study, the more pessimistic one becomes about the prospect for any meaningful resurgence of American democratic republicanism.

When Sarah jumped the shark, she was showing understandable jitters after years of ridicule by an American "5th estate" faithfully executing the dictates of the new leftist-progressive Establishment. How would you feel if someone bought a house next door to yours just so he could spy on you? You’d crack much sooner than tough Sarah did.

We know of this field more commonly as brainwashing. Thought reform is the discipline's description of it by its master technicians, the twentieth century Nazis, Russians and Chinese. George Orwell’s 1984 portrayal of the mass of proletarians kept happy by INGSOC is a mirror of the American consumerist, advertising application of thought reform. Long after the Middle American Radicals have let their aspirations drift off to Mars, Sally People Magazine and Joe Entertainment Tonight will hold the political center secure for the Chamber of Commerce.

Stella Morabito, who remarked upon Sarah’s demise, points to several classic studies of brainwashing in How to Escape the Age of Mass Delusion. (Her prescription is to cultivate authentic personal relationships as the ultimate political subversiveness.)

A book Stella recommends, The Rape of the Mind: The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide, and Brainwashing by Netherlands psychologist Joost Merloo, is only $4 on Amazon. (You can read it using free Kindle on your phone or tablet.)

It’s very discouraging to see that disinformation and lies are only secondary to bending the public’s will. However much we know the truth, all that is necessary to assure our compliance is to use modern informational technology to shame us into silence.

We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud. - Psalm 123:4

All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, "He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!" - Psalm 22:7-8

For ridicule to work, the subjects must have a conscience. So, trying it on libs is mostly a wasted effort.

the Left is toying with a marketing technique based on gradual subversion, called "nudging," by the despicable Cass Sunstein, who co-authored a book about it.The basic idea, which is psychologically sound, is to gradually widen the peoples' range of what is acceptable, without exciting resistance and blow back, so that over time, one's own position can be induced to shift in the desired direction.

Most likely the Left will overreach and not have the patience and subtlety to make this work; but make no mistake: for the vast majority who are not strongly ego-involved in a given point of view, it can be a powerful strategy for influence.

“When she self-imploded during her Iowa Freedom Summit address...”

“...jumped the shark...”

She didn’t implode at the Iowa Freedom Summit. Nor has she jumped the shark.

Shame and ridicule used to be society’s number 1 tool for enforcing the rules. Now we need a law for everything.

Conscience, yes, it is required for respect, humility, right and wrong, responsibility and shame.

Still, it is worth a try to ridicule the libs.

I am 63 years old, and still in their faces.

I will continue to think as i have for all those years.

I will continue to call queers what they are, aberrations of human defects, and not fit for society.

I will continue to believe that Negro shouting matches, interruptions of social functions, mass poutings and destructive temper tantrums going back to the Watts riots, have all been handled wrong, for if they were handeld more correctly, these things would not persist, today.

I will continue to speak out and write as i have, since then.

I see corruption, and speak against it.

We are infused with many corrupt elected officials, at all levels, from the municipal dog catcher, to the mulatto queer-in-charge in the White House.

I see queers in this nation celebrated as displays of manhood to the world, which really bodes well for those wishing to destroy this nation, who are also well in the world.

I see the effemination of the male race by the female sex, as a crime against nature. The overbearing mother has been let loose from the jar upon the nation, and that should never have happened.

I see an invasion of unwanted, by the rest of us in the nation but beloved of Washington, invaders from both Ottoman and Spanish ancestry, in this nation. It is plain to see that these invaders and unwanted humans are part of a scheme against the rest of the nation perpetrated in a backroom, or with this president, bathroom stall.

I will defend these things with my blood, should it be necessary.

Hmmm. They need help being ridiculed? Or just reminded. :>} Those of us with a conscience see their absurdities, they however do not. Commence mocking in 3, 2,

I was unaware Sarah Palin jumped the shark. In what way did she do this?

“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”
Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

The really galling thing was seeing Republicans `piling-on’
Sarah Palin, a good woman, person and mother.

That was when it became clear to me that the GOP lacked any conviction to stand up on behalf of its base while the Democrats were passionately intense, but lacked faith in anything of value.

I don’t belong to the cult of Sarah. She’s never impressed me. She does OK with talking points, but she wasn’t that great for Alaska. We really know nothing about her as a person. And as a parent she’s failed miserably with at least one kid. Really her greatest accomplishment in life seems to be giving McCain a decent dead cat bounce in the polls, the only week it wasn’t painfully obvious he was going to be crushed was when she got the VP nod, and even then he didn’t lead, he just wasn’t losing badly.
