Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has declared in a little-noticed TV interview that the United States should go to war against Russia, merely to block a flood of Muslim immigrants that can otherwise be stopped by a few European border guards.
Rubio wants to create a No Fly zone over Syria to prevent the Syrian air force from bombing rebel and civilian targets. Any Russian sortie into the no-fly-zone would be no different than any other adversary, Rubio said Oct. 5 in a CNBC interview.
His urge to shoot down Russian aircraft is a sharp break in the nations national security policy and the publics preferences that were adopted once Russia developed its nuclear bomb in 1949. Since then, direct conflict with Russia has been avoided, and is viewed as extremist in popular and commercial culture, such as the 1964 move, Dr. Strangelove.
However, Rubios combative approach to Syria reflects his need to build up his foreign-policy support among GOP votes and donors to compensate for the polling damage hes taken since 2013. Thats when he allied with Democrats and GOP donors to push the hugely unpopular comprehensive immigration reform amnesty bill that stopped by voters in 2014.

Um...no!
He wants to go to war with Russia over Syria? Actually not even over Syria, over helping Assad stay in power. As far as I’m concerned we should be glad if he regains control because the alternative is more chaos.
Rubio is a fool on so many levels.
The last thing we need to do is set up a scenario that would make us look righteous by targeting the Russians. They are not stupid, and they will fight back.
It could be a lose, lose situation for all. Let’s say we do kick their behind side. Are they just going to put their tails between their legs and whimper off? I’d say they’d use the nuclear option.
Let’s say we get our rear ends handed to us in a basket. Just what would our dear leaders do? Probably whimper off and not rebuild our destroyed military assets? Or go nuclear?
Well, yes, we must, but Syria isn't the place and this isn't the time. Save it for when national survival is at stake.
Yeah! Lets start another world war. They have been so successful in the past. Moron!
Rubio getting all Obama-Macho!
Mario, it’s a little different declaring no-fly zones over peaceful countries ( acts of war, of course - but at least you might get away with them depending on circumstances?) — and trying to declare one where a major world power has its Air Force engaged in active bombing raids. Wouldnt work out well now, Mario. Not at all
Thanks for the note on Carly!
So Rubio wants us to go to war with Russia, with President Pushover as CIC? That should work.
It is becoming easier to separate the nuts from the rest of the crowd. Anyone who espouses shooting down aircraft in Syrian air space that, like it or not, have as much or more right (fighting for the established government) as ours have is certifiably nuts. Defending NATO airspace is a separate question and that’s Turkey’s prerogative.
Or possibly he's wearing Carly Fiorina's 'big girl skirt'. Hasn't he got anything original to put forth?
the infowarrior
I thought I kept up with issues, but this no-fly concept has me puzzled. Who is it supposed to protect? Is it some kind of affirmative action to benefit ISIS, who has no planes? Is it supposed to keep out the Russians, Americans? Is it supposed to hinder Assad? We have had so much success in overthrowing the established rulers in that part of the world.
Shut the Hell up, you nitwit. (not you, Jimbo)
You go attack them, Sparky, you bellhop.
“Fiorina: We must be prepared to use force on Russia”
Why all of a sudden use force on Russia, when if we had used force of ISIS it would have been tamped down considerably.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$............
I never thought Rubio was a neocon, guess I was wrong..
What’s the goal Marco? Eliminate ISIS? Or Assad?
It’s easier to make neocon the default position for any candidate until they say or do something that indicates they aren’t.
Most of them just regurgitate whatever their big donors want them to say.
