Trump: I'm no Michele Bachmann or Herman Cain (He's going all the way)
CNN ^ | MJ Lee CNN

Donald Trump has this to say to his doubters: He's not just a flavor of the week.

Speaking at a ballroom here in Waterloo, Trump addressed recent questions about if and when he might drop out of the presidential race. The billionaire businessman said the media have misinterpreted his remarks about his political prospects and pointed out that he's now been leading national polls for months.

"For three months, I've been a politician. And you know, for three months, we've been No. 1," Trump told the crowd.

He added that it was wrong to compare his front-runner status to that of Michele Bachmann or Herman Cain -- two one-time 2012 Republican presidential candidates who briefly topped the polls last cycle.

"You know they used to say, well, Michele Bachmann, nice woman, Herman Cain, good guy, but they were there (at the top) for a week," Trump said. "We've been there now for three months, more than three months. So it's good."

The real estate magnate was asked over the weekend under what circumstances he would consider leaving the race.

"I'm not a masochist," Trump said on NBC's "Meet The Press." "If I was dropping in the polls where I saw that I wasn't going to win, why would I continue?"

Trump said Wednesday that reporters twisted those comments.

"All of a sudden, the next day the headlines are: 'Trump may get out,'" he said. "I didn't say that!"

If he drops out before the primaries or early in the primaries he would be branded a loser and that would be death for his brand and image. He would never get in unless he thought he could win - it’s clear from his books.

So far, he’s spent about what he might spend on a well planned birthday party.

Which means he’s got a billion or so to blow on trying to be President.

If he was really smart he’d just buy a network and run counter propaganda 24/7. It wouldn’t cost him that much and he’d probably make a fair amount.

But this is something more then that.

He already controls the networks without having spent a dime.

They hate it but he makes them so much money they can't stop covering him.

How can someone win the presidency if he can’t express even the simplest fact, such as, I’m not dropping out of the race, without making derogative comments about particular individuals?

Michelle Bachmann and Herman Cain were popular among Republicans, particularly in Iowa, just four years ago, so why bring them up in a way that denigrates them and thereby alienates both them and those who supported them?

Because they were recent conservative favorites who had zero staying power.

‘The media is incredibly stupid.’

And biased. Does anyone recall the MSM hectoring Obama about when he would drop out...when he led in all the primary polls?

These supposed reporters are just pathetic. I guess they haven’t noticed their credibility is in the toilet. This type of feckless stunt will only make it worse.

Because one of the media’s, GOPe’s and Trump hater’s mantra since he started his climb in the polls was the comparison to Herman Cain and Michelle Bachman and Fred Thompson and whoever else in the past two or three presidential elections may have had a lead. It is necessary to point out the difference.

Others have been comparing Trump to former favorites that fizzled. He typically responds in such cases, as opposed to being the one who started it.

Simple. He did it because he has often been compared to them.
From you attitude, you would have found something wrong with whatever he said.

Trump did not disparage Bachmann or Cain. He simply pointed out the fact that they were at the top of polls for only about a month. That is probably accurate.
