GOP 2016 POWER INDEX: JEB JOLTED FROM TOP SPOT
Theres been a seismic shakeup this week, knocking Jeb Bush from the top spot for the first time since the race began and putting Sen. Ted Cruz at the top.
The latest WSJ/NBC News poll has Donald Trump and Ben Carson tied for the lead with Sen. Marco Rubio and Carly Fiorina tied for third place. But few would imagine that those rankings will be predictive. Bush and Cruz in are farther behind, but the Fox News First Power Index is about more than just the latest polls. Its about who has the best path to their partys nomination.
What put Bush at the top of the list from the start was that his superior organization, enormous cash reserves and united support from the GOP establishment would allow him to do what the last two GOP nominees did and outlast and outspend insurgent rivals in the springtime.
But now its clear that Bush has some serious problems and seriously doesnt seem to know how to fix them...

Yep. Google it and Ted Cruz.
I agree that Trump's candidacy has done much to transform things, but Boehner's venomous comments have been directed mostly at Cruz. That's certainly a clue.
My opinion- it won’t pass. I think Cruz knew that. He wanted fast track for his Presidency, so he could negotiate his own deal. I think he’ll lead the opposition against TPP.
Why won’t it pass? By agreement, the TPP may not come before Congress any earlier than say January. It’s an election year— do you think Sanders or Clinton will support it? And I can’t see why Pubs would carry the water, because if they wait, a GOP president can re-negotiate it.
That’s just my guess- you may be right.
Cruz is at 6th place in the RealClearPolitics average.
Awesome. Must have had good dirt on him. Either that or they all chipped in and bought Boehner an expensive bottle of Scotch to step down

Peace, my friend. I have no quarrel with you. If Trump wins, I’d be happy with that.
But, I always defend Cruz because he’s a conservative ideologue, a true believer. He will do for conservatism what obama did for the Left.
If you have time, listen to the speech he gave on the Senate Floor today.
OK, it sounds like they have pretty good “MARGARITAS and BBQ RIBS.”. And back in 2013 they may, or may not, have had a meeting that forced boehner to back down. Is that the just of it? I don’t really see where this has any relevance with what is going on today.
I just listened to the speech Ted Cruz gave on the Senate floor. I couldn’t believe I sat there and watched the whole thing.
I wish they would have panned to the Senate GOP members if any stayed to listen. They probably left damp spots on their seats.
That speech was incredibly powerful and perfectly delivered. Mark Levine urged everyone to watch it. I wish everyone would.
This is hilarious! Fox News, aka billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s anti-Trump attack dog, invents some BS means to declare Jeb and Ted WAY, WAY ahead of Donald Trump, despite ALL the polls of ACTUAL GOP PRIMARY voters indicating that it’s Trump is WAY, WAY ahead!
And I thought the New York Times was the all time master at spinning truth into dreck. Looks like Fox News might be on a roll to take that cake away from NYT!
Oh, yeah. Cruz has gone after the squishes in the Senate big time. If you don’t think Cruz was at least partially responsible for Boehner’s departure, how do you explain the venom Boehner had for Cruz in that pathetic parting speech.
And, by the way, Cruz exposed Boehner’s corruption in the speech he just made to the Senate.
For the WIN!
He is the most Reagan-like candidate since Reagan.
I guess you didn’t read those articles.
You answered your own question - “superb ground game”. It was the same in Texas when he ran for US Senate. On the surface, no one thought he would beat Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst who is wealthy and been Lt. Gov. for many years. What was not obvious to political commentators was, Cruz had the organization to have workers among grass roots voters in counties across the state.
Those county workers contacted their Republican county primary voters and their mailboxes had Cruz material almost every day and then the workers contacted those voters again just before election day and those grass roots voters turned out and Cruz won handily to the vast surprise of those who thought they knew how that election was going to turn out.
There is no better organized candidate in this primary. Once again, political commentators are not aware of the Cruz worker organization that is happening in every state.
This is why I think he will win in Iowa. He is bound to have his workers there already and ready to go full time to contact those voters and get them to the polls.
Being seen on TV is one thing, but when every Republican voter is individually contacted, by person and by mail, and contacted again to get to the polls, that translates into votes.
I worked in the Texas Republican Party and saw how candidates ran their campaign and began to see which candidates would win and lose based on their methods. I worked for some candidates who were worthy and who had their campaign strategy honed to a fine point and I knew they would win with that strategy.
First the candidate has to be of superior quality and then must have a campaign strategy to get the message out and finally get the voter to the poll. I believe Cruz will win since I know he has a supreme method to accomplish those goals.

Go, Cruz, GO!
