Hezbollah welcomes Russian buildup in Syria, says U.S. has failed

Lebanese Shi'ite group Hezbollah on Friday welcomed Russia's military buildup in Syria in support of common ally President Bashar al-Assad, saying it was the failure of a U.S.-led campaign against Islamic State that had forced Moscow's hand.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in a three-hour interview with the group's al-Manar TV that increased Russian support for Assad included highly advanced weapons systems, warplanes and helicopters.

Russia has stepped up its military involvement in Syria while pressing for Damascus to be included in international efforts to fight Islamic State, a demand Washington rejects. By raising the stakes in Syria's four-year conflict, Moscow has prompted its Cold War foe to expand diplomatic channels with it.

Nasrallah said Washington's own campaign against IS, based on air strikes by a U.S.-led coalition and training so-called moderate Syrian rebels to fight on the ground, had been a "devastating failure".

"The failure of America and the international coalition to bring defeat to Daesh was one of the reasons which called or pushed Russia to also come, and to get directly involved," he said, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State.

"We welcome any force which intervenes and supports the front in Syria, because through its participation, it will contribute to pushing away the major dangers that are threatening Syria and the region."

Hardware sent by Moscow included warplanes, helicopters and precision missiles, Nasrallah said.

Russia has declined to comment on the full scope of its military support for Assad, but U.S. officials have said it includes at least two dozen fighter jets as well as tanks, troops and artillery.

Damascus had not yet requested combat troops, Nasrallah noted, but he said this could happen "at any time."

Here’s what stumps me. Our government wants Assad gone. Not a great guy, but ISIS is a total nightmare compared to him.
Nobody except ISIS has the slightest chance of unseating him.
If ISIS wins, there will be an ISIS border literally right at Israel.
Who, including the Assad removal cheerleaders here, can possibly see ISIS 100 yards from Israel as better than Assad?

Trump: Iran Deal Requires U.S. Protecting Iran in Event of Israeli Strike

by Jacob Kornbluh
Sept 2, 2015

In a phone interview with CNN Tuesday evening, Trump claimed that there’s “something in the Iran deal” that “people don’t understand” saying if someone attacks Iran, “we have to come to their defense.”

“Does that include Israel?” Trump asked. “And most people say yes, they don’t have an exclusion for Israel. So if Israel attacks Iran, according to that deal, I believe, the way it reads, unless they have a codicil or they have something to it, that we have to fight with Iran against Israel.” ..."

Trump was most probably referring to language highlighted by the opponents of the deal. On page 142, the deal includes a clause that states, “Co-operation through training and workshops to strengthen Iran’s ability to protect against, and respond to nuclear security threats, including sabotage, as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems.”

Washington-based Center for Security Policy asserted that Annex III appears “to commit the United States and other world powers to the defense of Iran’s nuclear program.”

Russian build-up in Syria part of secret deal with Iran’s Quds Force leader

September 11, 2015
Jennifer Griffin, Lucas Tomlinson
FoxNews.com

As the Pentagon warily eyes a Russian military build-up in Syria, Western intelligence sources tell Fox News that the escalated Russian presence began just days after a secret Moscow meeting in late July between Iran’s Quds Force commander — their chief exporter of terror — and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Fox News has learned Quds head Qassem Soleimani and Putin discussed such a joint military plan for Syria at that meeting, an encounter first reported by Fox News in early August. ...”

The Quds Force is the international arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, involved in exporting terrorism to Iran’s proxies throughout the Middle East including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. ...”

Officials who have monitored the build-up say they’ve seen more than 1,000 Russian combatants — some of them from the same plainclothes Special Forces units who were sent to Crimea and Ukraine. Some of these Russian troops are logistical specialists and needed for security at the expanding Russian bases.

"Iran Ready to Wipe Israel Off the Map"

By Dudi Cohen
Feb 2012 | Israel News

Tehran's deputy defense minister warns Jerusalem against strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, says 'any action by Zionist regime will bring about its destruction'

As speculations over a possible strike on Iran's nuclear facilities grow, the Islamic Republic is exacerbating its rhetoric.

Deputy Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Friday warned Israel against mounting such an attack: "Any act by the Zionist regime against Iran will bring about its destruction."

Hezbollah, he added, "Is at the forefront of the fight against Israel and it is growing stronger by the day."

Speaking at a ceremony honoring past Hezbollah commanders, Vahidi said that "Israel is weaker than it has ever been and its army is tired and humiliated... This is why it is trying to solve its problems by talking about taking action against Iran. But these are ridiculous statements.

"Iran's warriors are ready and willing to wipe Israel off the map," he declared. ..."

Russia will push ISIS into Iraq.

Then Russia and Iran will completely take over Iraq.

The US, under 0bama, will do nothing and I’m not sure who on the Republican ticket will either.

This is Putin’s opening and he is going to take it.

Obama has paved the way for Russia to do what they are doing. He and they share the same basic new world order vision: weaker US, stronger Russia and China. He's willfully appeased them time and time again (missile defense and nuke deals...)

I find it extraordinary that with 0bama’s election in 08, the Progressives around the world including the Nobel Peace Prize committee claimed victory in the Geo-Political game because they stopped playing.

That’s called a forfeit in my book.

Did they really believe that Russia, China, Iran, North Korea etc etc would stop playing?

Did they [Obama and Co] really believe that Russia, China, Iran, North Korea etc etc would stop playing?

Of course not. A major part of Obama's agenda is to intentionally weaken the US's position in the world while strengthening other countries', such as Russia and China.
