Rand Paul V. Donald Trump: Eminent Domain
National Review ^ | 9/14/2015 | John Fund

Posted on 09/14/2015 11:42:47 AM PDT by SMCC1

"Paul later told me he thinks he has found an approach that will separate Trump from the rest of the GOP field: eminent domain. “A hallmark of Republicans is that they respect private property. But Trump runs roughshod over it,” he said. “He is a serious abuser of taking property for his private benefit.”

Try taking the subject of Eminent Domain to the Great Unwashed and watch how fast their eyes glaze over.

Trumpkins can’t even pronounce “eminent domain”. And they think people who care about liberty are losers.

Nice try, Rand.

No Trump supporter is going abandon The Donald because of eminent domain; I think it's been established that his horrible policy positions in the past don't matter to them.

But in real world, Trump's actions with respect to the issue were horrible and he should have been ashamed of himself:

Hmmm...if Trump genuinely believes that eminent domain when used by a private individual is a good thing, then I'd hold that against him.

But if Trump is using it merely because it's a tool allowed to him by law, then it's no big deal...it's much like a company avoiding taxes because the law allows it to do so.

I used to like Rand but he supported Mitch the bitch McConnell’s Senate reelection. That said it all.

It wasn't just self-interest. He's on record as being pro-Kelo on principle.

Ha, I know. I guess I'm saying that while I hope a person would take the moral high ground in cases like this, I can't fault a person for acting in his own best interests, as long as that action is clearly within the law.

Two times, the city tried to used eminent domain to get someone to sell that was in the way of a Trump major project. Two times they failed to win.

It one case, Trump offered the owner 4 times what the property was worth before the city tried eminent domain.

Eminent domain is in the constitution.

If you were building a hotel, and you needed an area for a parking lot and one homeowner would not budge, even after being offered ONE MILLION DOLLARS for a property worth $125,000.... what would you do ?

The whole “legal” system is corrupt and has been for 100 years-—and is so corrupt now, there is hardly any Bill of Rights left.

That Trump HAS to work inside this evil “system” (which should all be unconstitutional) is not his fault. He is unable to change it—as a businessman. ALL successful people have been virtually using this unconstitutional system which is really a cartel system-—buying off govt officials.

Can’t condemn him for it. He is smart to be able to succeed when the govt. has stacked the deck against Free Market Capitalism and literally force them to buy off officials. He will play their game to win. (Machiavelli would approve and if he is working for the “Good”-—so he can return govt. to Rule of Law-—then, hurray for him.)

Trump is basically a libertarian (that is, very statist when it suits him - but don’t anybody touch his pot or, in his case, his gambling empire) and basically amoral.

I don’t know why Evangelicals are so enchanted by him, except that he’s of Scottish Protestant descent. But he’s not on their side, and I can’t even faintly see how they think he is.
