Cruz Is Right: the Corker Law Period for Congressional Review of the Iran Act Has Never Begun
National Review ^ | September 9, 2015 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 09/09/2015 2:30:16 PM PDT by AJFavish

In Senator Ted Cruz’s excellent Senate floor speech against President Obama’s catastrophic Iran deal, he urged Republican leadership – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) – to reject the claim that Congress must vote on the deal in the next few days. He is absolutely right. By the unambiguous terms of the Corker law, the period for congressional review of the Iran deal has never begun because Obama has failed to provide the entirety of it.

New President:

Day One — revoke all Obama executive orders, abrogate Iran agreement, have lunch...

Which is why he voted for it. It allowed them to slow down Obama’s implementation of the Iranian sanctions relief.

So Republicans sat on their asses letting Obama get away with everything and I’m supposed to pretend that they’re one step ahead?

Why is he defending Obama? According to Corker, if Obama didn’t present ALL provisions of the deal to Congress by July 19th, the game is over. Obama did not disclose all provisions of the deal by July 19th. What’s so hard to figure out?

I was about to say güle güle to Cruz after that, but he just proved how much smarter he is than me.

Ted Cruz is very good, and is doing what needs to be done.

Here is Ted Cruz has to say on the corruption and weak leadership of the GOPe.

That Tuesday lunch began with our leadership saying, “We’re asking every Republican senator here, to affirmatively consent to lower the threshold for Harry Reid to take up the debt ceiling, from 60 votes to 50 votes. And we were told, everyone of you should agree for two reasons.

Number one, if we do this, it will happen, and hallelujah, hallelujah, that’s what we want. We want trillions more in debt with no spending reforms, because we’re scared of this issue. We don’t want to have a political fight on this.

But number two, if we do this, the Democrats will have the votes to do it on their own, which means all of us Republicans can vote no. And we can go home and tell our constituents, we opposed the thing we just consented to allow happen.

Now, I was sitting there — to be honest, I hadn’t gone to lunch intending to pick a fight, but as I listened to that, I was astonished and I raised my hand, and I said, “There’s no universe in which I can consent to doing that. I spent two years campaigning across Texas, telling Texas, if you elect me, I’ll fight with every breath in my body to stop the out of control spending and debt that are bankrupting our kids and grandkids.”

If were to do that, I think it would be both dishonest and unfaithful to the men and women who elected me.

Yep. If Cruz has a flaw its that he overestimates the intelligence of the American people. He plays that 3 dimensional star trek chess.

In early August he called on states to impose their own sanctions on Iran based on a supreme court case (fought and won by Ted Cruz) in 08 where the court ruled that international treaties not approved by congress held no jurisdiction over the states. Now the Michigan and Oklahoma attorneys general are both calling on other states to impose sanctions on Iran.

...

Except if this ever goes to court, John Roberts will redefine some words and save the day for Obama. The game is never over until the legislators in the courts have their say.

Alan, this is a president and Congress that refuse to play by the rules. Someone was stupid enough to think they would, and reduce the number of Senators who had to agree with the deal, to avoid it being rejected.

THAT GUY isn’t as smart as I am. Sorry, but those are the facts.

Yes, some day in a land far distant, this may make it’s way before the SCOTUS. When it does, Chief Justice Robers will be able to claim the deal is anything he likes, add paragraphs to it, or fabricate whatever else he wants to out of his imagination to disagree with those who oppose it.

Not hanging my hat on any of these.

The deal will be approved. Big freaking mistake!

Agreed. But right now the Corker law can be used against Obama. He didn’t release the agreement in the statutory time.

What’s so hard to figure out about it?

The “game is over” when Obama says it’s over, not when a bunch of Republicans think they have figured out why Ted Cruz voted for a traitorous bill.

Obama will do anything he wants whenever he wants, because the GOP enables him every step of the way by refusing to effectively use any actual power against him, and THAT is the part that is hard to figure out, Nick.

All the GOP had to do to win was NOTHING.

Any state which has a bank or a corporation chartered under the state’s law and/or has a presence in that state should IMMEDIATELY FREEZE any assets that are held for Iran. I’m not holding my breath while waiting for this to happen.

That’s exactly what McConnell and Boehner want you to do. Now sit down, shut up and vote Republican. (/sarcasm, as if I needed to tag my post that way.)
