Trump signs pledge not to run as independent in 2016

Donald Trump announced Thursday he has signed a GOP pledge not to run as an independent in 2016, after a personal appeal from the Republican Party chairman.

"I have signed the pledge," Trump said, holding it up.

The decision by the Republican presidential front-runner helps ease concerns among party leadership that an outside Trump bid -- should he not win the nomination -- could threaten the party's chances in the general election by peeling off votes.

The party began circulating the pledge to virtually all the Republican campaigns earlier this week. But Trump was the obvious concern. He had been the only one who did not raise his hand when the 10 top-polling candidates were asked at last month's Fox News debate whether they'd commit not to mount an independent White House bid.

Trump, after meeting Thursday with party boss Reince Priebus, said the chairman has been "extremely fair."

"I just wanted fairness from the Republican Party," Trump said. After holding up the pledge, he said, "I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party, and the conservative principles for which it stands."

I pledge allegiance
To the Republican party
And to the conservative principles
for which they stand.

Rush got a chuckle out of that.

Interesting choice of words:

” the Republican Party, and the conservative principles for which it stands.”

So, not only is this just a fancy piece of paper with no real teeth anyway, but now all Trump has to do is point out that the Republican party is not standing for conservative principles and he’s free to tear it up and do whatever he wants.

As he has pointed out many times, the government negotiators are stupid, and clearly Rinse Preibus isn’t even up to that level. A win for Trump!

Listened to part of Trump's news conference broadcast on the Rush show. He sounds magnificent. What an awesome performance.

He makes one recall that a President really should be someone with a lot of talent, a lot on the ball.

In recent decades, we've been taught that talent is a disqualifier.

Except in the case of Bill Clinton, who was the most astonishingly talented liar I have ever witnessed in my life. Bill Clinton was to the art of lying what Chopin or Brahms was to the art of music.

That talent, the MSM admired.

Ted Cruz is a class act. Unlike some of his supporters.

For a candidate who boasts writing the book "Art of the Deal" where is the GoPe/RNC consideration in exchange for Trumps signature? Where is theirpledge stating they will reciprocate:
"...will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is,"

Trump supporters determine he is an idiot for doing so. They drop their support. Now that they don’t support him they don’t have to back off their statement that he would be an idiot to sign the pledge. Signing the pledge was done this morning, so it is just something that was done in the past. Now they can re-support him.

Your effort to diminish Trump is about as effective as a lit match against a glacier.

Nope, we are not committed to voting for a RINO.

It is time to tell them that we will NOT vote for a RINO.

If they (the Republican establishment) reneges, he can renege too.

If the Geriatric Old Plotters screw him, perhaps he can run as VP on a third party ticket.

Meaning he can run as the democrat he actually is. I understand they may be looking for a candidate.

I think it’s a mistake.

He didn't have a choice.

The GOP leadership, despised as they are, still control the rules about primary eligibility. If Trump didn't sign, he wouldn't be on the ballot, and write-in campaigns don't work. Even Trump is realistic enough to see that.

It's kinda small potatoes now anyways, because he's on track to win it.

Yeah...but we didn’t pledge to not do a write-in.
