How Social Media Wins Political Campaigns

New York --- August 23, 2015 ... Social media is no longer the bastard son of the media.
It is the media.

There was a time when newspapers (print), billboards, lawn signs, buttons, radio and TV ruled in winning a political campaign.
Those days are history. Classic media is still relevant, but no longer primary.

It is no longer the question "should we add social media to our campaign budget?" But - "should we add newspaper, TV and radio to our campaign budget".

The reason is called "instant", "feature" and "cost effective".

One need not wait for the morning paper to appear - a paper which was written 12 hours earlier. One need not wait or miss the 7 p.m. evening news.

Just one click on Google, checking a hash tag feed on Twitter or checking your news feed on Facebook will give you all you need. And if it ain't there - move on.

We are looking at two animals - one is called organic or an Internet search find which appears naturally and the other is a paid sponsored result which appears in your search.
They are both potent but their use is very well defined according to which stage of a political campaign you are at.

Forget having any kind of presence on Facebook without paying for it. Unless the New York Times, Reuters or AP has printed your Facebook page, you ain't gonna get LIKES.
Facebook has learned how to make money and it's called paid advertising. You can have 5,000 friends on Facebook but you are not going to reach them or any other demographics without paying for it.

Twitter, on the other hand, is still very free. If your hash tag goes viral - then you have won the golden calf.

The trick in using social media to win a political campaign comes down to one word: engage. The more you engage the public, the more content you upload on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube the more people will see, read and vote for your candidate.

And if your candidate makes a mistake, misspeaks - he or she can make an immediate retraction or apology using crisis communications on Twitter.

Need to contact a member of the press or the managing director of a stadium or civic center?
Go to LinkedIn.com - they should be there.

Do you still need to place ads in newspapers, radio and TV? Yes.
This is called Integrated Marketing. Where you advertise your social media real estate in print and advertise your print on social media with the same message.

Your anchors on social media are Websites. Domain names are your branding.

Ever wonder how hundreds if not thousands of people find an event and protest in it?
It's called social media. But to find that social media address you need to pay for it in both Facebook and Google. You need to advertise it in major print and broadcast media if the event is planned only a few days away from conception.

If you are not uploading on social media 24/7 - forget your political campaign and stay in bed.
The days of reading the morning paper and waiting for the 7 or 11 p.m. news is gone.

Last word: your social media is only as good as the quality of the content you are uploading.
Do not leave this critical work to an intern.
Retain and hire the best and most experienced editorial / PR staff (10+ years) who also know how to penetrate and distribute throughout the Internet.

The godfather of the
"Conservative" Foundation Movement
ruled with the majority
in Roe and Doe.

Matt Bai's The Argument: Billionaires, Bloggers, and the Battle to Remake Democrat Politics, is a candid account from an insider to the party of the enemies of life, of the struggles among six groups vying for control of Democrat Party fund-raising and platform direction prior to the 2006 mid-term elections, including:

  • MoveOn.org,
  • the Daily Kos and other blogs, and
  • a little-known but highly influential assemblage of three billionaires and sixty millionaires, The Democracy Alliance Adobe Acrobat file.

Ostensibly concerned with attempts of Democrat Party outsiders to wrest control from the party old-guard using netroots, powerful new means of fund-raising & connectivity centering around the internet, the author of The Argument ends up admitting that, by the 2006 mid-term elections, despite the influx of new blood, the Democrat Party was as far as ever from convincing voters—or itself—that it has any ideas or programs that make it superior to, or different from, the Republicans.

Of special interest in The Argument is a PowerPoint® presentation nicknamed "The Killer Slideshow", formally titled The Conservative Message Machine's Money Matrix. Compiled over a period of about a decade by a leftist policy wonk, Clinton administration treasury official Rob Stein, the 2004 presentation used charts, diagrams and other graphic aids to detail the rise of the conservative foundation movement between the defeat of Barry Goldwater by President Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1964, and Ronald Reagan's 1976 Republican primary challenge to President Gerald R. Ford.

The Killer Slideshow—no one was allowed to view it without signing a non-divulgence agreement—took as its starting point the August, 1971 memorandum from future Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Lewis F. Powell, Jr., to Eugene B. Sydnor, Jr., Chairman, Education Committee, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Titled "Attack on the American Free Enterprise System", the confidential memorandum was held to be the original inspiration for the system of conservative foundations, considered by Democrat Party operatives in The Argument to have locked down Republican Party domination of the Presidency for nearly thirty years between Carter and Obama, only interrupted by Clinton. The presentation's point was to exhort leftist donors into replicating the Republicans' long-term, Presidential electoral success Adobe Acrobat file. (Regardless of the slideshow's ultimate effect, it is worthy of note that the Obamanistas project a forty-year reign, longer than that of the Democrats during the Depression period 1933-1954. Democrat campaign strategist James Carville has argued quite persuasively that the political statistics make Democrat domination of the Presidency, the most likely outcome of the current economic and political struggles.)

Now, after gaining only grudging admission to the Republicans' "big tent" for the better part of five decades, Pro-Lifers—one of the most coherent voting blocks in the pivotal 1994 mid-term elections, with exit-polling showing 26% reporting Pro-Life as their most important voting issue—should now realize that from its inception, the so-called "conservative" movement was founded by those who only threw table scraps to the Cause of Life. This is conclusively proven by the behavior of one of the leading founders of the superstructure of "conservative" foundations, (fundraising apparatus such as direct-mail, training institutes, think-tanks, journals and talk-radio), Lewis F. Powell, Jr., who The Argument documents as having initiated the movement's long-term, historic success. And yet Powell, this paragon of "conservatism", ruled with the majority in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the Supreme Court decisions which opened the floodgates of bloodletting in the killing of more than 50 million children in the U.S.

This betrayal didn't start with "conservative" Republican California Governor Ronald Reagan—remarried after divorce, popular among reporters for telling "the best dirty jokes"—signing into law one of the nation's first laws permitting abortion, in 1967. "Conservative" President Dwight D. Eisenhower later became converted to the false gospel of contraception and population control in the mid-1960s.

By that time, there was "growing government interest in population control and the putative threat to American national security posed by a growing Third World population. … '[W]orries about the Soviet Union and the possibility of Communist inspired revolutions in the Third World were widespread in government and foreign-policy circles'. Funding for population control in the Agency for International Development [USAID] began with a modest $2.1 million dollars in 1965 and quickly reached $185 million by 1980." (James R. President Richard Nixon, who won a 49-state "conservative" landslide in 1972, could have exercised his authentic Executive prerogative to interpret the Constitution by resisting the Supreme Court's final domination of all aspects of civic life in its 1973 decisions Roe and Doe. But Nixon favored abortion in cases of "miscegeny", unions which produce mixed "race" children.

(In 1968, Samuel Frederick Yette, Washington D.C. Bureau Correspondent of Newsweek Magazine, wrote The Choice: The Issue of Black Survival in America, exposing high-level plans within the United States to use birth control and abortion as instruments of Black genocide. Despite the fact that his book was selling well, had won at least two national awards and was being used as a textbook in colleges across the country, Yette’s publisher mysteriously dropped him and took the book off the market. Immediately after this book was published, Yette was summoned to his supervisor’s office and fired. He was told that Newsweek was under pressure from the Nixon White House to get him out of Washington.)

With imminent prospects for loss of our freedom at the hands of the leftists, how much longer can the Pro-Life movement afford to allow the Republican Party, and supposedly "conservative" Democrats, to shine us on? Will we have to lose our freedom completely, as with Canada—where merely praying on the sidewalk results in imprisonment —before we get serious about demanding that the Republicans authentically support our cause?

Facebook is loading liberal political stories with links on the Trending Now news stories which pop up on the right side of page. Yahoo does the same.

Well, that would have *prevented* Barack Hussein Obama, now, wouldn't it? Obama ought to be glad abortion was illegal back when he was conceived, as I imagine there would have been CONSIDERABLE pressure on his mother to abort (single unwed mother, mixed-race child) back in 1961...

Social Media is important. No doubt in that. But it’s not everything. Otherwise, Bernie Sanders should be poised to seize the Democratic Party Nomination because he has the most active Social Media presence.

This writer should then try and explain why one of Twitter’s most powerful users couldn’t translate that into votes in Baltimore.

Deray McKesson finished in 5th or 6th place.

I’m not saying Social Media isn’t important, but it doesn’t always translate to votes.

However, it does give a campaign the ability to bypass the media which isn’t a bad thing.
