For a gun writer, it sounded almost too unbelievable to be true.
The Pasco County Board of Commissioners declares a state-of-emergency Saturday because of severe rains and flooding, and then an unknown county official supposedly orders the Walmart Supercenter in Wesley Chapel to suspend firearms and ammunition sales because of the emergency.
Aaron Mullins, Walmart's corporate spokesman, confirmed the story Monday, at least at first.
"A county official reached out to the store and said they weren't allowed to sell firearms or ammo," Mullins said Monday morning. "The store did not give me the person's name, but said they were contacted by a county official Saturday."
The guns and ammo ban remained in effect through the weekend, and was still still active as of Monday morning.

Collapse of civil service? Just lay down and die serf.
When Walmart joins the ranks of Wards, Sears, K-Mart, Penny’s and other FAILED retail losers, I won’t give a care.
Since when can a county employee tell a business what they can or cannot sell? Is this a democrat county?
F..... Walmart!!!!
If they won’t sell guns and ammo someone else will!
Time for Civil Disobedience!!!!
The lesson to be learned here: Don’t wait until you need a gun to buy a gun. You might find yourself SOL.
Read the details! this was a co-manager at the store who did this on their own and is apparently being disciplined. Sensational headline with very different reality.
Well they DO tell you, don’t shoot at water, but maybe these yahoos don’t know better?
(kidding, kidding, KIDDING, this sounds like a stupidly wooden rule)
“Since when can a county employee tell a business what they can or cannot sell? Is this a democrat county?”
In Florida, they may not. In this case, it was a Wal-Mart employee who made the decision, on his/her own, based on a faulty reading of the law. They are being disciplined.
No county employee called for a ban.
You certainly can’t have anyone defending his property from looters in a flooding or other “emergency.”
Read your history. Slaves were not allowed weapons without the Master’s permission.
A county official ordered the construction of a 50 foot sign that reads “LOOTERS WELCOME!”/s
Yep, that’s what I was thinking! Why wait? Beat the apocalyptic rush and stock up when possible.
