Allahpundit of the site, Hotair sums up the efficacy of this idea perfectly: "So, so dumb, but that’s our donor class for you."
The New York Times details the "logic" of why boycotting the debate by major candidates is a good idea:
The thinking, according to a Republican involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to bar Mr. Trump in order to have a full complement of candidates.
Allah blows that nonsense out of the water:
Bush, Walker, and Rubio can each argue, somewhat credibly, that having Trump in the race is good for them. For Jeb, he’s a big-name foil, a guy whom Bush can use to underscore his own comparative moderation and electability. There may be nothing worse to many “somewhat conservative” voters than nominating a Bush … unless the alternative is nominating Donald Trump. For Walker, what could be sweeter than having Trump around throwing roundhouses at Bush for being a RINO and a loser? He’s making the same bet that Ted Cruz is, that Trumpmania will cool once Republican voters start to get serious about picking a candidate. And Walker’s well positioned to pick up Trump voters (and “anyone but Jeb” voters) thanks to his newfound hawkishness about the border.

Yep, see GOPe and DNC and the nail bitters are running scared....
They are going to be more scared when they start getting the treatment McCain, Graham, got....
The GOPe and DNC are the parties of DONORS, not of people.
Elites want to maintain control of candidates. They don’t want to leave it to the voters.
All the money in the world won’t get conservatives out to vote for someone in whom they don’t believe. Similarly, all the money in the world won’t get illegals and Hispanics out to vote Republican in numbers that can replace lost conservative votes.
Why? Sovereignty, love of country, value of hard work and the Constitution on the one hand, and Republicans can’t deliver largess anywhere near the level of Democrats.
In short, GOPe’s dreams of a bigger tent are pipe dreams. They miscalculate on conservatives and they overestimate the big “Hail Mary” with Hispanics saving their bacon.
In the real world, the thought of a Trump presidency is becoming more generally accepted. That's my observation, anyway.
Declining to participate in the debate would be political suicide. I hope Jebby decides to do it....
What NO ONE is saying is: How could trump be worse than Obozo? He cannot possibly be! Sadly...that is where were at in this country!
My liberal sister is having an epic meltdown about Trump. She’s not going to vote Republican in any case so I don’t know why she is having a come apart. It’s what he’s saying about immigration. I told her that no matter what she thinks, people are mad as hell about the illegals.
If they boycotted, this would be a ratings bonanza for Trump. Everyone would be wondering about what the fuss is all about and would watch the debates. People who normally would not watch would watch. I so hope they boycott. They would focus attention on Trump 10 times what it normally would be.
so their official reason not to include him is because he has a big mouth? He’s confrontational? He’s mean? He’s not a politician? What?
Trump might find himself in the Oval Office if they did this.
Everyone would vote for him almost, maybe that’s the plan!
The RNC/GOP-e need to tread very, very carefully here.
If they deny a forum to a perceived contender for the nomination, the stay-at-home numbers in 2016 will dwarf those from 2012.
Hey, maybe Perry WILL make it to the debate :)
DONORS, Lobbies like Planned Parenthood for the DNC 95%-wise, too bad these people shape policy so much.
Elites don’t want the schlock they are selling to get blown out of the water!
Priese is between BaRack and a hard place and should step down
