Donald Trump, Fake Conservative (Michael Reagan)
Townhall ^ | Jul 17, 2015 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 07/20/2015 11:28:55 AM PDT by nickcarraway

Donald Trump has jumped to the top of the national polls for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

It's an embarrassing moment for the GOP, the country and the planet.

But everyone knows America's richest celebrity businessman will never become the Republican candidate, much less president of the U.S.

Unfortunately for the GOP's future, however, the billionaire blowhard is not going to fade away in a week or two like Herman Cain or Michele Bachmann did in 2012.

Whether he's really worth $10 billion, as Trump claims, or just a few billion, he has more than enough money, ego and media pull to keep him in the race all the way until Election Day.

With an ego bigger than America, Trump could pull another Ross Perot and put another Clinton in the White House.

Meantime, Candidate Trump has been a running political joke for weeks.

Underneath his criticism of America's weak and stupid leaders and his boasting about his being able to make better trade deals with foreign countries than anyone else, he really has just one issue - immigration.

An issue which he blew badly.

In trying to explain his crude position on that politically complex subject, he managed to offend every Latino in the hemisphere by implying that illegal immigrants from Mexico are mostly murderers and rapists.

As for Trump's positions on other issues important to conservatives and the future of America, they remain a total mystery.

The media won't ask, and he won't tell.

Is he pro life or pro choice?

Is he for national health care or against it?

How exactly does he plan to create all those new good jobs for Americans?

Is he going to raise taxes on the rich? Flatter taxes or fairer taxes?

What would he do to fix the education problem?

If indeed immigration is his signature issue, how is he going to stop or control it? And what's he going to do about the 12 million illegals already here?

Maybe Candidate Trump filled in Ted Cruz on where he stood on these issues the other day when Cruz made a friendly visit to Trump in his Tower.

But other conservatives need to find out if Trump is really a Republican.

He sure doesn't act like one. He's already broken Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment - never speak ill of another Republican - dozens of times. (Trump's 12th Commandment is "Speak ill of everybody.")

So before any more conservatives jump on the Trump bandwagon, wouldn't it be better to find out where he stands?

We only get sound bites from Trump's events. But no one in the liberal media is in a big hurry to go deeper on him and his views.

They aren't going to dig deep into his "colorful" personal or business history in an attempt to discredit him or prove, as some people say, that he's not even as conservative as Bill Clinton.

If the media did some excavating, they might be surprised by Trump's answers.

They might find that he doesn't say the same thing to conservatives in private as he when he bloviates in front of crowds and cameras.

What, for instance, did Candidate Trump say in private when he talked to the Friends of Abe, the support and networking group actor Gary Sinise started for about 2,000 political conservatives working in Hollywood?

Were the FOA's elite members put off by him? Did they embrace him? Who knows?

No one in the mainstream news media seems too eager to expose Trump for the conservative fake he really is.

They treasure him for his celebrity and his entertainment value and don't want to spoil the show.

But the liberal media treasure Trump even more because he spends so much time helping them discredit the Republican Party and conservatism.

Trump got $200 million. In 1974 dollars that's over $1 billion. If he had invested, even conservatively, he could have several billion. But he only has between $150-$250 million. He way underperformed the market. Even the highest researched estimate of his wealth was $788 million.

Only Trump and the media claim he is worth $10 billion.

Trump endorsed Romney in 2012, and registered as a Republican to vote for him in the primary. So Trump and his RINO flock should stop lecturing us.

Was he supposed to help obama?

PRAISE GOD: a FReeper who "gets it!"

Oh, he is? How come he took the anti-Confederate flag side? How come he won't say anything that would remotely offend gays? How come when two Muslims tried to kill Pamela Geller, he took the Muslim side. How come he keeps going out of his way to say how fabulous Mexicans are? You've been sold a bill of goods.

He did help Obama. He distracted from his performance issues and made promises about his birth certificate and then delivered nothing.

Guts is not being soft-spoken and losing graciously after the left flattens you.

Now if this guy is making an honest effort (and that is all I can assume that the effort is until credible evidence is presented otherwise), then he is not going to get snarky comments from me trashing him as being a phony.

People on our side don’t not get that the political field of battle is not the same as 1956, 1980 or 1976 with nice polite back and forth with some TV ads and a few fliers or a whistle-stop tour. And that all you have to do is give some boring speeches like Scott Walker and that should win it all. There is a gigantic army of leftists online and in the media that is waiting to smash the GOP nominee handily because they know the RINOS and much of the right is populated with wimps more afraid of the media and the church ladies on Sunday than they care about defeating the left’s media machine.

Trump, like it or not, is letting these people know right off the bat that he is not going to be screwed with by anyone. He will not apologize because they demand it, nor will he shrink from a fight. The last time we had a person running remotely like that was Newt in 2012, but the right just had to go with a boring guy in a sweater vest because we’d rather lose with a halo then win hard.

When another candidate can run hard and on these issues, then Trump wont matter, until then Trump will be on top.

” Even the highest researched estimate of his wealth was $788 million.”

In other words, no one in the country but you knows this.

“...implying that illegal immigrants from Mexico are mostly murderers and rapists.”

He really did not imply that. Dishonesty on Reagan’s part.

Oh, no, plenty of people know it. The media won’t report it, because he’s one of them. But I am sure they would report it if he were running against a Democrat.

Yes Ronnie Reagan had his philosophy and Trump has a right to his own philosophy.

Try reading what’s written there, sport. None of what you ask even remotely addresses what we’ve written.

You’ve crossed over into mindless trolling.

Try to keep up, Michael. He is not going to win the nomination. But he is saying things that definitely need to be said. I think he’s helping whoever wins the nomination and I hope it’s Cruz.

Trump’s philosophy is narcissism with liberal overtones. Trump is Jeb Bush with a Howard Stern makeover. Supporting Trump means you agree with Jeb.

Wanna share who you’re FOR and why?

(Honestly, I have no problem with your relentless attacks on Trump or any other candidate. It gives his supporters something to cut their teeth on before they fight the general public)

Now who’s your guy and why do you like him? Do you see him winning? If he wins, does he have the moxie to actually make a difference... at ALL?

Yes, you are saying that Trump stands up! When really he’s just being a reality TV moron. If he is standing up, how come he can’t stand up against the left. Why are gays off limits?

I like Michael Reagan. Having said that, I have to state that I have never seen him offer up a more self-destroying ignorant rant.

How he could dismiss Trump this resoundingly, and miss the point completely is beyond me. One thing is clear, he has not been paying attention at all over the last two weeks.

His one comment about immigration being Trump’s only draw would be flat out comical, if it weren’t so self-destroyingly insipid. Then he goes on to crown that monstrosity, with his perception that Trump even blew this issue. When he did, you could almost hear the last bit of credibility sucked out of the room.

Michael, today as a nation we are discussing Sanctuary Cities. Can you grasp why? Do you understand the implications? Evidently not.

Donald Trump was a massive game changer that neither the GOPe or the nation’s media can control.

He has addressed immigration, trade, our military preparedness, jobs, welfare, and many other issues. And Michael, the things he has been saying were reasoned from the Conservative perspective, with few exceptions.

I suggest you get on the internet, go to YouTube, and listen to Trumps presentations.

If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll realize how wrong you were in this sad presentation of yours.

Anyone who doesn’t understand why businessmen give generously to politicians who represent their district regardless of political affiliation, either didn’t see The Godfather, or wasn’t paying attention.

I don't have a candidate yet. I put Cruz, Jindal, and Walker in the top tier, but I have my doubts about them too.

But Trump is the worst. He has tried to use the GOP for his own agenda before. He is not a conservative, and he is not "standing up" to the media. He is a reality TV person and he is only doing this to get attention and his new reality show. He is draining conservatism out of the race.

He has no intention of running. The media is protecting him from his dirt now, but they never would in a general election.
