"There were 1,600 private corporations issuing banknotes and an estimated 8,370 varieties of notes" in the 19th century, while the U.S. economy "grew at an average rate of 4.4 percent per year [and] the price level remained roughly constant." VERY interesting article. I almost missed it due to the headline. Maybe next time add an explanation in brackets [] in the headline.
Anyway, well worth the read.

Conservatives need to take this seriously and drop the fantasies of putting people like Ayn Rand on the bill. Its not going to happen and we'll end up with some hard left icon on the bill.
My personal suggestion is that if it must be a female, we use one of the fictional female representative symbols of America like "Columbia". She's a representation of America that is devoid of left or right ideology.
Personally I like "Victory".

Chromosomes don’t lie even if one chooses to live a lie.
Anyway, I always thought that was Jason Robards on the twenty spot.
Wouldn’t mind Claire Boothe Luce on the ol’ sawbuck.

Choice is always better than the government's one-size-fits-all solution. What mental midget says so? The statement is patently false and should be refuted.

Why not keep things the way they are, Hamilton on the $10 and Jackson on the $20. If we are going to put a women on a new bill make a NEW BILL! How about a new $500 or a new $1,000.

Fortunately, more voted for Harriet Tubman. Tubman escaped slavery to become a leader of the Underground Railroad, then repeatedly returned to slave territory to help others escape. Tubman would be a good choice. What's more libertarian than helping people escape slavery and resist being governed without their consent? None of these people reach 10% of the significance of Alexander Hamilton.
This is an attempt to give unearned credit for the sake of aggrieved feelings.

Which one will be next to demand a place on money so that we will have to look at it each time we pay and be reminded of how evil and privileged we are?

True story: Gloria Steinem got married to David Bale, Christian Bale’s father, at Wilma Mankiller’s place. In light of Christian’s playing Patrick Bateman in “American Psycho”, that’s always amused me.

“Numerous banks used to print their own competing currencies. Contrary to the claims of John Kenneth Galbraith and other left-wing economists, private competition tended to prevent runaway inflation and deep depressions.”
I don’t think competition had much to do with it. The real difference is that those private banknotes were backed with actual physical commodities, like gold and silver. That’s why they were a better store of value than the notes we have backed with nothing.
