California may be on the cusp of an oil fracking boom along its 1,750-square-mile Monterrey Shale Formation, which is potentially the richest shale oil reserve in the United States.
Earthquakes have disturbed the layers of shale rock that run under most of the western state, making fracking more challenging than in a region like North Dakota. But when the next cyclical El Niño brings the huge amounts of water necessary for fracking, California could experience an economic boom similar to North Dakotas oil rush.

will the liberals who run California really allow fracking? I’m skeptical.
Cali just banned further drilling offshore.
Have a tough time seeing them going for fracking. It causes earthquakes, you know. lol
Will tom steyer allow it? Glow bull warming causes erfquakes after all. Oh and pumping slurry in to it too. Ecowackos ain’t gonna let it happen. It’d be tied up in the courts for years.
One hand can wash the other here, quietly. When you go down as far as they need to go in order to frack, you can many times find the water you need and condition it.
When you are done using that water, you can either put it back, or you can keep it and drink it. You obviously have to treat it a bit, but mostly for the things you bring up - like Arsenic, which is an element and fairly common.
The water would be at least agricultural grade with a little bit of effort.
The state legislature put out guidelines for fracking. It’s almost sensible.
But in Monterey County there will be no fracking. More like riots if they try.
That’s how nuts the idiots here really are.
I just cannot imagine CommieFornica allowing such a thing, surely, Lenin would turn over in his tomb should fracking actually be allowed to happen.
It's all about money.
Even the most hard core lunatic Democrats have figured out that they are running out of sources of income to skim off of.
They need fresh sources of income to keep their Ponzi Scheme of a state government alive and fracking is the only game in town.
Yup. California will allow this to happen.
I also have a bridge to sell.
Couldn’t they use salt water?....................
No way, that would lower the ocean level.
Of course, we're talking California here. Using seawater would involve building some type of pipeline or hose and that might disturb the habitat of some newly discovered sub-species of dung beetle or something . . .
But I thought THAT was what we wanted!...........................
amen..... except California is a desert and lacks the water to frack
Dung beetles should thrive in California...........
Yeah but the liberals in the state government have hungry voters to feed.
Salt water is there in abundance....................
Here comes El Nino now...

To paraphrase our Vice jester in chief, one word’ “Pacific Ocean”.
