Ending rent-control might just force the riff-raff to leave

Isn’t it strange that no matter how much is charged for rent in NYC, the cockroaches and rats refuse to leave.

Before the last change which did allow for increases and end of rent control under certain circumstances, took a tour of Manhattan. There were numerous buildings that were fire gutted, exterior intact. Asked why they just sat empty, guide said that the low comtrolled rents made rehab impossible.

So friggin’ dishonest.

Diblasio and cronies are pushing a dramatic EXPANSION of rent stabilization and pouting that the Republicans won’t give it to them.

The construction unions and the real estate interests are also futzing with the extension of the existing rent stabilization laws by linking it to the terms for the extension of the (massive) tax subsidies that new property development can get in New York if the developer also builds affordable housing. Developers profit hugely from being able to sell tax-abated units and the unions profit hugely from the prevailing wage laws which effectively exclude non-union contractors from jobs. (If you deprive the non-union contractor of his advantage in wage cost, union contractors get all the jobs.)

Japan actually announced their surrender on August 15, but the buck-toothed bespectacled little men in tails and top hats didn’t visit Big Mo to sign on the dotted line until Sept 2.

It’d become like San Francisco w/o the sourdough. And the view.

The end of worrying about rising water level is at hand.

No one will live in New York because the rents are too high.

Donald Trump will be out of a real job.

Yes - it could be parsed, and yes, I know VJ Day is generally regarded as 8/15 (in the US), but still, I see it like marriage. There is the day it is announced, and then there is the day it becomes official and binding.

I thought it became binding on Aug 6. If not, then Aug 9. ;)
