Israeli Ambassador: Serbia was on right side in World War II

BELGRADE – The Serbs are among the rare nations that were completely on the right side in World War II, and Serbia has nothing to be ashamed of regarding the fight against Nazism, says Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Yossef Levy.

Yossef Levy, Israeli Ambassador to Serbia

In a statement published in Wednesday’s issue of Vecernje novosti, he said that the Serbs are among the rare nations that had the courage to fight against Nazi Germany without hesitation or fear.

Levy declined to comment on the debate in the Serbian public and the region on the recent rehabilitation of General Dragoljub Mihailovic, the commander of the Yugoslav Army in the Fatherland who led a guerrilla force established immediately following the occupation of Serbia in April 1941.

I will not be getting into the debate about Chetniks or assess whether they were good or bad, but I think that entire Serbia has nothing to be ashamed of regarding the fight against the Nazi evil in World War II – the Jewish state and the Serbian state share many similarities and one of the significant ones is that they were created in places where civilisations clash, Levy said.

The experience of a nation that was nearly exterminated but rose from the ashes again is a collective and personal experience shared by Serbs and Jews, Levy told Novosti.

Well, mostly.

Honorable men could, imo, choose to be anti-Nazi or anti-commie.

OTOH, there were also opportunists and collaborators who made similar choices for entirely dishonorable reasons.

Wasn’t Serbia part of Yugoslavia during WWII? And yes, Yugoslavia was on the right side.

We won the war against Germany and Japan in WW 2. But we should have then marched into Russia as Patton wanted. Stalin was arguably worse than Hitler. He enslaved all of Eastern Europe and those he killed before WW 2 in his own land was in the tens of millions.

No one remembers that, or the millions Mao killed or the millions Pol Pot Killed or in the early days of the 20th century the millions of Armenians the Turks killed. Are these not holocausts?

Why does one ethnic group demand all the sympathy during the deadliest century ever?

The Jews are demanding all the sympathy? Nice straw man you’ve got there.

There is certainly a difference in how the victims of Nazi Germany and Soviet Union are treated.

Here is a video where Montclair State University professor loudly claims Stalin did nothing wrong. If any professor were to claim that about Hitler then he would not have a job after counted hours.

I hear tell that a group of folks want to make the term Holocaust exclusive with no one allowed to use it except for the WW 2 killings in nazi concentration camps. Holocaust being a perfectly ‘cromulent’ (google it ) word, used for centuries.
n. noun
1. Great destruction resulting in the extensive loss of life, especially by fire.

Now let me cut to the chase. I support Israel. I like Jewish people. I can’t stand the liberal mantra in either Christian or Jewish or Atheist or any group. Certain groups Jewish people who are extremely liberal are mostly, really atheists are cultural Jews (most of my Jewish friends are not religious either, nor are they leftist). Many progressive Jews, think Israel is a rogue state and need to cede a Palestinian homeland. These appear to me to be the same group who also demand all the attention for their 6 million dead, while the other holocausts of the 20th century fade into history.

No straw men. There is enough

Oops sent it unfinished .....all ‘thumbs’ on iPhone

There is enough Jewish people out there to demand extra attention for their WW 2 plight. There are enough who don’t. Unfortunately the non complainers do not make the news.

[snip] Back in November 2011, when the Palestinian Authority sought UN membership as a state, the deciding vote on the Security Council belonged to Bosnia. The Croatian and Muslim members of Bosnia’s presidency both supported the Palestinian position, which was hardly surprising given the historic enmity which the two communities had shown to Jews in the past.

Thus, the fate of Bosnia’s vote, and the Palestinian proposal itself, boiled down to the position that would be taken on the matter by Republika Srpska.

Thankfully, the Serbs adamantly refused to back the Palestinian initiative, thereby preventing Bosnia’s presidium from reaching a consensus on the issue. Consequently, Bosnia’s UN representative was forced to withhold support for the Palestinian request, which failed to pass as a result. [/snip]

While you make some valid points in your reply, your initial comment that “One ethnic group (the Jews) is demanding all the sympathy”, was clearly an over-reach. It would be similar to me saying that one ethnic group (Mexican-Americans) wish to subvert American sovereignty, in spite of the fact that those who support the La Raza agenda represent only a small minority of that population.
