New York Times columnist David Brooks said that Joe Bidens plan to split Iraq into three regions back in 2006 looks like a smarter and smarter idea on Fridays PBS NewsHour.
Brooks stated, We tried and I give Joe Biden credit. Hell renounce it, but years and years ago, probably 2006, 2007, he had an idea for a loose federal Iraq. And that, in retrospect that looks to me like a smarter and smarter idea. We have tried to keep this country together, but the Sunnis are not really sharing power with the the Shias are not really sharing power with the Sunnis. Theyre not willing to give the Sunni forces the weapons and other things they need to defeat ISIS. The political system is still fractured. The soldiers clearly do not believe in that country.

A blind squirrel will find an acorn every once in a long while.
David Brooks likes the cut of Biden’s Iraq almost as much as the crease in Obama’s pants.
The 3 state solution is not exactly Joe Biden’s idea.

brooks and biden want iraq to be in a continuous state of war ...
could have worked. we would have had to enforce it and once we left would anyone have eyed the other’s territory?
I believe the problem is where the oil assets are.
The separate parts would probably still fight against each other and/or be prey to more powerful outside states, and the ethnically mixed Baghdad region would be hard to split up between Sunni and Shia.
While we’re at it, let’s divide America between the Marxists and Capitalists.
I’m suspect someone at the State Department looked at it and decided we’d just have to pay off three times as many thugs. Over 30 years later, I guess I still think we’d be ahead.
I want a loose federal America
Me too.
It’s recognizing reality. Iraq is not a nation.
Why do we fight for arbitrary lines drawn by European politicians 95 years ago? The idea that enemy tribes can have “elections” is preposterous. Yet, we spend $billions and shed blood for these mythical nations all over Africa and the Mideast.
If you're Joe Biden, you throw $hit against the wall until something sticks.
It was a typical strategy of the British Empire: set two large minorities against each other and let a very small elite ethnic minority run the country. The Hashemite rulers of Iraq and Saudi Arabia bit the dust long ago, but many of Britain's constructions, for good or ill, continue.
Like that really worked in Berlin and Vienna.
And where Turkey is as well.
David Brooks and Mark Shields were lamenting the fact that George Pataki hasn't the slightest chance of being the Republican nominee. They thought he should have run in 2008. Brooks was longing for a "moderate" Republican to run to see how well he would do. (I guess he didn't pay attention to the 2008 and 2012 primaries.)

I can handle things! I'm smart!
Not like everybody says...like dumb
I'm smart and I want respect!
You are correct
Someone Should Tell Biden Who "Served In Iraq Or Iran"
