Scott Walker Wins Pennsylvania Conservatives' Straw Poll
News Max ^ | April 20, 2015 | John Gizzi

Posted on 04/20/2015 11:35:15 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

In results that were stunning for several reasons, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was the runaway winner in a "straw poll" of Republican presidential favorites at Pennsylvania’s largest-ever gathering of conservatives, the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference, on Friday and Saturday.

With the "straw ballots" counted and released on Saturday, Walker was an easy winner with 91 votes, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 58 votes. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was third with 56 votes.

Since the first PLC back in 1989, the group has become the most-attended and most-watched conclave of conservatives in the Keystone State. Fueled by the recent campaigns of conservative Sen. Pat Toomey(R.-Pa.)and by the rise of the "tea party movement" over the past five years, the 2015 PLC attracted a record 700-plus participants...

Walker’s showing among this group was particularly impressive in that many PLC participants freely acknowledged to Newsmax that they had never met the governor but admired him tremendously for successfully standing up to organized labor over reform of pensions and healthcare for public employees.

Recalling former Republican Gov. Tom Corbett’s defeat last fall at the hands of Democrat Tom Wolf,a Western Pennsylvania public relations woman and conservative activist told Newsmax:"Gov. Corbett missed his Scott Walker opportunity by never pursuing pension and healthcare reform the way they did in Wisconsin. That would have rallied the grass roots in Pennsylvania and possibly saved him."

Lowman Henry, president of the Pennsylvania Leadership Council, agreed. As he told Newsmax after the straw vote, "Gov. Walker has strong appeal to Pennsylvania conservatives, as we are engaged in the same battles against oppression by labor bosses as he faced in Wisconsin. He has proven his willingness to fight, has won major policy victories, and survived the wrath of the radical left. He is a proven leader, and that is winning him a lot of support here.".........

Breitbart: Scott Walker Lays Out Pro American Worker Stance on Immigration [Re: April 20, 2015 Glenn Beck interview]

".......This development, perhaps one of if not the biggest of the 2016 presidential campaign so far, comes as Walker has taken a commanding lead in polls in all three of the first GOP primary states: Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

The reason why this development is so significant is that the two establishment-backed candidates, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, both have an in-depth understanding of the immigration issue and come down on the side that supports special interests’ desire for a massive increase in legal immigration that hurts American workers.

Meanwhile, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rand Paul (R-KY)—who like Walker make up the more grassroots conservative side of the field—don’t really weigh in on the legal side of the immigration issue. So as Walker continues to gain traction as a potential candidate, and readies himself for a launch, it’s quite clear he’s making a significant effort to learn what he now clearly understands is one of the most under-appreciated angles of the jagged razor-edge issue of immigration—the angle that polling shows can help him clear the GOP field and easily eliminate Rubio and Bush, whose pro-open borders positions stand against American workers....."

There is no political candidate who is going to have it all perfect coming right out of the gate. We might as well confess that this is as obvious as it is that the ocean is wet. Even Reagan did not do all policy right and such problems were masked perhaps more than was wise by his charm.

One who will listen like Walker (and I believe it will also prove true of Cruz) will gain in the contest.

I’m so impressed by a guy that didn’t realize we had an immigration problem until a few weeks ago.

Wow, are we lucky or what?

January 3, 2011 - Walker assumes Office of Governor of Wisconsin.

June 27, 2011: Walker Revokes In-state Tuition For Undocumented Students Attending Univ And Colleges In Wisconsin "- On Sunday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) signed his two-year 2011-2013 budget, which included ending in-state tuition for undocumented students attending public universities and colleges. In-state tuition for undocumented students was approved two years ago by former Governor Jim Doyle (D) after the Hispanic community struggled for 10 years to pass it."...

March 2015:“We strongly dispute this account. Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed. His position has not changed, he does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants, and this story line is false,” she announced in an email to journalists Thursday afternoon.”

“I made it clear that for me, if somebody wants to be a citizen, they need to go back to their country of origin, get in line, no preferential treatment,” Walker said. “In terms of what to do beyond that, again, that’s something we got to work with Congress on.”

What bothers me isn’t that he’ll listen. Hey, it’s great he’ll listen.

Illegal immigration has been raging since 2000. Until a few weeks ago, Scott Walker hadn’t listened at all. It took him fifteen freakin’ years to figure out that he needed to get with it on this issue, and formulate a policy that wouldn’t make him look like a horses ass when he ran.

NOW, he’s supposedly the best Conservative out there.

He had John McCain’s immigration policy a few months ago. He was willing to let them remain in place. He was willing to let them continue to work. Certainly he had to know that policy would see them transition.

Now he gets it.

Is this the the thick head of the new century awards? If so, I vote for Walker.

There will always be the cynic who will never learn. The cynic who will never learn will end up getting washed out of the picture, taking impotent pot shots from the side.

Just as I’m impressed with someone who thinks the best way of dealing with our shortage of technical workers is to import a bunch of them into the country.

Well CW, your out here flogging another loser. What’s it feel like to pull this routine every four years?

You now trust a man that until recently said he wouldn’t send them back home, but didn’t want them to get citizenship either. Hello, is this John McCain/Ted Kennedy or is it Scott Walker?

You do realize that isn’t compatible don’t you? If you don’t, why are you trying to inform others?

His comments in the last few weeks have been different. Walker now realizes that there’s a serious immigration issue, and he’s come up with a new plan.

This has been a raging issue since 2000. Walker just figured it out fifteen years later. He now thinks they need to go back home and get in line.

So do I. I have since 1990. I wasn’t running for office when I figure it out.

Of course he is. How dare you speak ill of the man. Conservatives attend fag wedding receptions, right?

I don’t agree with that either. So neither of them are fit.

There. At least I can be honest with myself.

How about you?

Walker has done nothing to help illegal immigrants nor immigrants. so some poster is just trying to smear Scott Walker who has passed more pro American and conservative laws than ANYONE. Walker's record shows who he is and that he does what he says he will do. Walker's record shows he is Pro American and that is to be trusted to do what he said he will do and now he says that he will reduce legal immigration something that no one else is saying. some of these posters want us to think that Walker is an anti American liar that will put foreigners over Americans. I believe Walker not these propaganda artists.

There are a number of Republicans who are saner than anything the Democrats can dish up.

So what do we do. We test them with mud fights. That’s the dignified spirit.

Nope. I never learned about Bush.

Nope. I never learned about those who were convinced their guy was going to beat John McCain to the nomination.

Nope. I never learned from those who were convinced their guy was going to beat out Romney.

Ever four years we play this game. Every time people fall in line behind the feau Conservative.

Here we go again.

Illegal immigration has been a raging problem since before 2000, but here in 2015 Scott Walker has finally had a come to -—— moment on it.

Up until now, his plan was the same as John McCain’s. McCain didn’t want amnesty either. Remember? Evidently not. Why do folks sucker for this? Why are you?

Give me a guy that has had decent policies before he decided to run. Otherwise, I want no part of him.

It’s now a simple mud fight to mention that Scott Walker’s immigration stance was essentially the McCain/Kennedy policy until recently? Really?

Wow.

The fact you equate Walker to Bush makes everything that follows fall under a deep cloud of suspicion, and with no less merit than what you trumpet about your own judgment.

How very Alinsky of you DO.

The rules

1. “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

2. “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

3. “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.

8. “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

9. “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

10. “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

11. “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.

12. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions

There are other people who hoot at Cruz because he’s never been an executive.

In this kind of game, the perfect is being played against the good, and the only thing that will remain standing is that which never had any noble pretenses.

I think you DO want Bush... and this is how you intend to get him! If you won’t learn a third time you never will.
