The world is blowing up, the U.S. economy is still in the pits, and the administration is demonstrating an incompetence rare even for Washington. So, naturally, the president has turned his attention to the pressing issue of transgender rights.
It is vital that transgender people get to use the bathroom of their choice and that nobody rag on them, or make fun of them, or ignore them.
Valerie Jarrett wrote the press release:
In a statement that was posted on Wednesday evening alongside a WhiteHouse.gov petition begun in honor of Ms. Alcorn, Mr. Obama condemned the practice, sometimes called “conversion” or “reparative” therapy, which is supported by some socially conservative organizations and religious doctors.
The petition has received more than 120,000 signatures in three months. We share your concern about its potentially devastating effects on the lives of transgender as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual and queer youth,” the statement, written by Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama, says. “As part of our dedication to protecting America’s youth, this administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors.”
In an interview on Wednesday, Ms. Jarrett said Mr. Obama had been moved by the story of Ms. Alcorn’s suicide. But she said the problem went far beyond Ms. Alcorn. “It was tragic, but I will tell you, unfortunately, she has a lot of company,” Ms. Jarrett said. “It’s not the story of one young person. It is the story of countless young people who have been subjected to this.”
The efficacy of gay conversion therpay is not the issue. The question is, why in the wide, wide world of sports is the federal government getting involved with this issue?

But you won’t hear any of this raised by an incredulous press corps that might find Obama’s apparent deference to scientific consensus opinion on gay “conversion” hard to swallow when his party rejects that consensus on other matters of importance to a greater number of Americans.
The so-called “Ms. Alcorn” was actually a mentally ill boy named Josh.
Looks like he does not want to be cured.

Ignoring the obvious issue here, I’ve noticed that homosexuality is the only politicized mental illness.
I’d be asking why should we say nothing about a society that lures unbalanced kids into being something bizarre? This goes way beyond libertarian, this goes into being perversely perverse.

I thought gay conversion therapy is what they
taught in our schools today. They seem hell bent
on making our children confused and twisted.
