BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) - Applications for state jobs in Virginia will no longer will include questions regarding a person's criminal history.
Governor Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order removing criminal history questions from state employment applications Friday.
Under the order, employment decisions won't be based on an applicant's criminal history unless it's specifically related to the job they are being considered for.
While it only applies to state employment applications, the order also encourages similar hiring practices for private employers throughout the Commonwealth.
Some business owners we spoke to in Bristol, Virginia are not on board with the idea.

Maybe he’s thinking about his own job future.

So the person at DMV asking all those sensitive questions can be a convicted felon. Nice job, Gov.

For government criminals, having a criminal record is a “feature”, not a “bug”.

Well, as a former VA Prosecutor it is quite true that not all crimes are created equal and some are, indeed, utterly irrelevant and should not be considered at all. But asking for none of them? I’m guessing murder should still be on there.

Good. If they are out, they have paid their debt to society.

It will be interesting to watch state employees become victims of their own twisted policies.

They don’t get their 2nd amendment rights back. If you commit a crime that is bad enough (felony) you should pay a price for the rest of your life. I am not saying you should never be able to work, that would be silly; but it should affect your ability to be considered for certain jobs.
