Extreme Conservatism: Bureau of Labor Statistics Needs to be Abolished (Vanity)

Today's labor statistics indicate, at least to me, something that we have long suspected. Labor statistics are being manipulated for political purposes.

126k jobs were added in March compared to the expected 245k. February's jobs numbers were revised downward from 295k to 264k. January's jobs numbers were revised downward from 239k to 201k. The unemployment rate remains unchanged at 5.5%.

It seems apparent that the Obama administration manipulates the job numbers. The few Americans at casually pay attention to the news hears one thing: employment rate of 5.5%, and perhaps, what ever the latest month's success is in job creation by the Obama administration.

Freepers and market savvy individuals know that the real number to look at is the employment participation rate - or lack there of. Additionally, the primary consumers of labor statistics such as brokerage houses, large investors and businesses use privately researched statistics for the basis of their business decisions.

As I see it, the BLS has outlived its usefulness. Well actually, it never had any usefulness, since in my little conservative world the Federal government was never given a constitutional power to have a Dept. of Labor. The elimination of the BLS (all of Labor for that matter) would only produce a positive impact on America.

KEYWORDS:
Imagine the benefit of a lack of certain statistics that businesses really don't need. For instance, there is no need for have labor statistic to be produced by race. If Negroes and Hispanics want to be judged by the content of their character (e.g., part of which is being employed and productive) instead of the color of their skin, then you would naturally think there is no special need for minority labor statistics. Everyone would be Americans and would be treated equally. We know what progressives do with the negative statistics. It is just another argument for a government handout program.

Less government always produces less corruption and greater transparency.

Maybe showing those stats by race will serve notice to some races that without major attitude adjustments they have no purpose in a modern economy?

I can’t wait until a Republican is elected and unemployment officially jumps to 25% (the real rate) on his/her inauguration day...I expect homelessness to quadruple immediately as well.

Does since late January 2009 count as "long"?

To be fair, the stats have been manipulated for years in both Democrat and Republican administrations. It's just that under Obama, that manipulation is on steroids. And with so many people out of work, including those who have given up looking for work, that manipulation is glaring to all but the most rabid Obama worshipers.

I've heard estimates that the real number is actually closer to 50%.

The lying communists empire of King Obama has taken control of most bureaus of the Federal Government. Bureau of Labor Statistics in no exception and I believe the unemployment is around 18%.

No, this shows the gibmedats that the oppressive white man is still holding him down because of racism and more race riots and knockout games will solve the unemployment problem.

It is their responsibility to adjust their attitudes and behavior. The best solution is to leave them to fend for themselves. Cut them off from the dole and treat them equally. When faced with starvation and inadequate shelter from harsh weather they will be compelled to adjust their attitudes and behavior. Additionally, we should not want our tax dollars going to what has been proved unsuccessful. The statistics have no meaning to races that do not pay attention.

You know that Social Security and IRS know how many workers are paying taxes every month. No newstards ever try to find those numbers.

90% is about right in my book as well. I once tried to play a little game. I took the annual federal budget and used the constitution to determine if a government function needed to be funded. After a couple hours of the 'game' I quit. I simply realized that about 90% of government wasn't needed and it fruitless to continue with the 'game'.

How can they reconcile the fact that these two are at odds with each other?..............

The states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to stick its big nose into intrastate labor issues including vote-winning labor statistics.

IIRC, companies submit their taxes quarterly, not every month. I could be wrong......................

Personally, I don’t think it is a responsibility of government to know who is employed or not. There shouldn’t be social security or an IRS. Just honor the commitment to social security to those that have budgeted and planned on that income. Pick an age - say 50 - and anyone under that age will not receive social security. Over time there won’t be any social security. As for eliminating the IRS, that’s a simple one - a flat tax or a consumption tax paid only by individuals to state governments which in turn deposit money in the federal department of treasury. I advocate a consumption tax since it does not punish production, but I would tolerate a flat tax since it would be better than our current tax system.

I guess that depends on your definition of 'they'.

Sure, but as the white population literally disappears and blacks are far below the imported replacement Americans, those arguments will fall flat.

BTW, that is already the reality facing many blacks today; they have less and less interaction with the remaining whites, and are dealing with the replacements in the workplaces and neighborhoods instead. It was no accident that Michael Brown was shoving around some Asian guy; in nearby Newark NJ the only businesses that can be robbed by black thugs are owned by them.

That definitely would work (cutting off the dole), but won’t help those already out of the school system with no job skills or passable English. The statistics don’t just serve blacks’ purposes, they serve as warnings to others as well.

If you torture the data long enough, it’ll confess to anything.

Seriously, over my career I worked with or made these acquaintance of eight or ten labor economists. Okee-dokee folks for the most part, but social justice warriors all, to the core. I guarantee you, every vehicle in the BLS parking lot has an Obama bumper sticker, right nest to COEXIST!.

FYI: I rely on shadowstats.com for correct unspun gov’t labor and inflation stats, which use pre-1983 unmanipulated measurement methodology.
Latest unemployment figure is 23%.
BTW: that number happens to align with the average during the great depression, where improvised masses relied on charities and soup kitchens to survive.
Food stamp EBT cards, easy credit and other benefits we pay for mask the extent of how bad the economy really is, IMHO
