Wal-Mart Fights Bid to Curb Gun Sales

New York’s Trinity Wall Street Church Challenges Assault-Rifle Sales By Joann S. Lublin and Paul Ziobro March 22, 2015 7:38 p.m. ET

A U.S. appeals court showdown looms next month for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in a case with potentially broad impact on how much influence investors can have over their companies.

The dispute concerns Wal-Mart’s sales of assault rifles with high-capacity magazines. New York’s Trinity Wall Street church wants shareholders to vote on a resolution calling on Wal-Mart’s board to review management decisions to sell the weapons, as well as other products that could harm the company’s reputation.

A district court sided with Trinity in November and said that Wal-Mart has to include the proposal on the corporate ballots it will send out this spring. Wal-Mart appealed, arguing that the shareholder resolution meddles in regular business decisions and is at odds with decades of guidance from the Securities and Exchange Commission that such affairs are off limits.

The writers use the term 'Assault-Rifle' throughout the article.

If some have difficulty with the story URL just Google the headline.

First define exactly what the terms “assault rifle” and “high capacity magazine” mean. As soon as you do that (assuming you do it correctly) you’ll find that WalMart sells neither.

assault rifles with high-capacity magazines

A meme the Left can't let go of.

Wonder if Trinity Wall Street Church has an IRS exemption.

Exactly.

But you know that Bloomberg and all gun grabbers with the willing assistance of the media including WSJ are more than happy to help by continuing to call ‘Sporting Rifles’ “Assault Rifles”.

Trinity Church, at 75 Broadway in lower Manhattan, is a historic, active, well-endowed[3] parish church in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Trinity Church is near the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway, in New York City, New York.

Disclosure resulting from a lawsuit filed by a parishioner revealed total assets of about $2 billion as of 2011.[3] Although Trinity Church has sold off much of the land that was part of the royal grant from Queen Anne,[12] it is still one of the largest landowners in New York City with 14 acres of Manhattan real estate including 5.5 million square feet of commercial space in Hudson Square.[3][14] The parish’s annual revenue from its real estate holdings was $158 million in 2011 with net income of $38 million,[3] making it perhaps one of the richest individual parishes in the world.[12]

The fact that a Church (under the guise of shareholder) challenges Wal-Mart on a legal enterprise for other-than-business purposes, would put me down on the side of taxing churches like any other business.

They are free to invest wherever they like.

Liberalism is Destroying Christian Churches

© O. R. Adams Jr. 2010

Reverend John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was a renowned writer, teacher, and cleric in the Catholic Church. “On September 19, 2010, during the first state visit a pope has ever paid to Great Britain, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Englishman John Henry Newman, that is, he officially named Newman a Saint with a capital ‘S.’”[1] On liberalism in the church, Rev. Newman said:

Liberalism in religion is the doctrine that there is no positive truth in religion, but that one creed is as good as another…. It teaches that all religions are to be tolerated, for all are a matter of opinion. Revealed religion [biblical Christianity] is not a truth, but a sentiment and a taste, not an objective fact, not miraculous; and it is the right of each individual to make it say just what strikes his fancy.[2]

No truer words were ever spoken. Two of the mainline protestant Christian churches are the Presbyterian and Methodist churches. The National hierarchies of these churches have been extremely liberal and out of touch with their church members for many years. The same is true of the National Council of Churches (NCC). Many members have generally supported socialist and even communist causes – including Cuba and communist regimes and revolutionaries in South and Central America. As shown by their own website, the NCC has now become a liberal political group.[3] I believe that most of these leaders at the national level have been so influenced by liberal academia and media that they no longer have any basic Christian beliefs.

An article of Media Transparency, Institute on Religion and Democracy Slams ‘Leftist’ National Council of Churches[4], states:

New report from conservative foundation-funded IRD charges the NCC with being a political surrogate for MoveOn.org, People for the American Way and other liberal organizations. ...

“Bob Edgar has declared his personal support for same-sex marriage. He and other NCC leaders repeatedly criticize fellow Christians who defend the traditional definition of marriage. In thus fostering the impression of an evenly split U.S. Christian community, the NCC serves the interests of its ‘progressive’ yokefellows who are campaigning for the legitimization of same-sex marriage,” ...

These same ideologues are like those that contend that Jesus was nothing but a "prophet" or an important religious icon, but nothing more special than that.

Faith and conviction are powerful, powerful things. When you relegate someone so iconic as Jesus to status of 'prophet' among many (religions) you deny his reality (self proclaimed, even) as the Son of God, you demean the whole concept of religion. In that case, why treat your enterprise as nothing more than a business, just like thousands of others out there struggling for that dollar.

New York’s Trinity Wall Street church Is Episcapol...not to mention the church that supported the "Occupy Wallstreet Weenies"... Police responded to those bimbos by arresting at least three Episcopal clergymen...It's an activist haven no doubt...heck their music program has an an annual budget of $2.5 million (as of 2011) as if they need that for music!..

It's also 'one of the largest landowners' in New York City with 14 acres of Manhattan real estate including 5.5 million square feet of commercial space in Hudson Square.

The parish's annual revenue from its real estate holdings was $158 million in 2011 with net income of $38 million

Another Liberal cash cow and activist haven...as they say on their site... "At Trinity, we’re committed to social justice and peace"

It calls itself a church...makes millions on real estate investments...it’s really an activist haven with a mask of churchianity. Their primary goals are “social justice”...figure that!

Any holdings outside their “sanctuary” proper should be taxed at the full-boat rate, IMO.

I live in the mostly free state of West Virginia. I occasionally shop ate Wal*Mart.

I have never seen assault rifles for sale there, nor have I seen any high capacity magazines.

I have seen semiautomatic rifles based on Eugene Stoner's AR-15 design. I have seen standard capacity 30 round STANAG magazines.

These idiots at "New York’s Trinity Wall Street Church" (whatever that is) are blabbering on a topic of which they know nothing.

"Assault Rifle" is a rough translation of the German word "sturmgewehr", and refers to an automatic carbine firing an "intermediate power" cartridge.

When the gun thieves claim that Wal*Mart is selling "assault rifles", they're LYING.

I wonder if anyone actually goes to Trinity. About 15 years ago, it went to the Episcopal Cathedral in NYC. It was nearly vacant of people. A whole lot more people live uptown than on Wall Street in NYC. There were more people at my small town Episcopal church on a typical Sunday. (Although, that has changed since due to the influx of apostates.)

That’s where a corporate accountant comes in...and likely the corruption with when there’s that much revenue flowing.....lots of places you can “hide” it.

They have over 2 million going into their music programs....I wonder what their choir sings worth 2 mil a year!
