Ted Cruz’s Texas two-step: Hired gun for Google (Gigantic Hurl Alert)
Yahoo!News ^ | March 6, 2015 | Luke Mullins

In a little-known chapter of his career, the tea party darling intervened before his former employer on behalf of the tech giant. Was it lawyering or lobbying?

When the Texas attorney general opened an investigation into Google’s alleged anticompetitive practices in 2010, the Web behemoth turned to an unlikely ally for help: tea party hero Ted Cruz.

Back then, Cruz wasn’t the Republican senator from Texas and likely presidential candidate that he is today. He was a lawyer in private practice, having stepped down as solicitor general for the Lone Star State in 2008. During the five years he had previously spent in the attorney general’s office, however, he made important friends. He established a close relationship with Greg Abbott, the then attorney general who has since ascended to the Texas governor’s mansion. “I was his mentor,” Abbott said of Cruz in a 2014 interview.

You nailed it.

It is stunning how many articles are surfacing about Cruz’ clients as a young lawyer - trying to prove some BS “gotcha” point. Like you said, a lawyer works for his clients.

Key words, "lawyer in private practice" means they will do anything for money, it's what they do.

Is anyone surprised that a lawyer will defend his client?

And Lincoln as president kept on believing in railroads (the Union Pacific line traces back to his Civil War period efforts).

And yet, railroads had a good purpose.

Why are liberals complaining that Cruz assisted Google in a particular quest? Of all the sins of Google, I’ve not heard much conservative accusation that they are “anticompetitive.” How can they be with a legally one of a kind service? Now when Google patents run out that will be a different story.

I can’t believe the lack of simple logic being used on this thread.

Several times I’ve encouraged supporters to ‘have faith’. I didn’t think that suspension of reality was also going to be applied.

Author of article needs to look around and see if he can find his a$$ with both hands. Cruz was a lawyer, so what’s so unusual about anyone hiring one of the best? Even liberals know that.

If Cruz were not one of the best conservative minds out there, we wouldn’t even be discussing this. Thanks to the author for reminding us of that fact.

I was referring to Mr Mullins as author of the hit piece on Senator Cruz. I think a hurl alert was most appropriate in this situation.
