A Cypress Bay High School French teacher could lose her job after allegedly calling a Muslim student a rag-head Taliban.
....I shield my son from every hate I can. I am very careful and pay attention to that sort of thing, so I sat him down and explained about the ultraconservative political and religious faction....
Her apology was robotic and empty and rehearsed, he said. She said it was an innocent joke and then started rolling her eyes and was huffing and puffing when I asked her questions.
She, as a teacher, has a responsibility. Look, as a Middle-Eastern man, I have treaded lightly ever since 9/11.
...Wardani...wanted the teacher fired or suspended for a year without pay. And, he wanted a public apology.
Wardani [had] three choices pull his son out of the class and put him in another French class, learn outside of class or remain in the same class. So far, the ninth grader remains in Valdes class.

You don’t call your students names and this person needs to be fired. This person can find work where loud mouths are needed, not working with kids.
not even rag heads?
If a joke it was ill considered. If there was lack of malice then a slap on the wrist should be enough. Don’t let this be turned into another cause celebre for CAIR.
But Madame, I am not Taliban! I am ISIS! Those Taliban are weenies!
It looks like this teacher will be going to “The Bag of Jelly Beans” School. “Diversity and multiculturalism” is the communists’ strength.
Another case of invented victimhood. Dad can’t take a joke, can’t accept an apology after he says he can’t take a joke, is given the option of MOVING HIS CHILD OUT OF THE CLASS, and refused.
He wants teacher’s head on a platter. Is that statement a hate crime?
Rag-head is more demeaning than towel-head.
I had a french teacher call a girl a bitch when I was in school. He should have been fired but wasn’t. Teachers have no right to call kids anything other than young man young lady or by their name.
Was the epithet hurled in French?
Context matters, though that was still de trop.
I believe towelhead may be more politically correct.
No he yelled it with blood vessels popping “biiiiitch”. He should have been fired immediately. But we all just went on.
... basically since French conversation in French class involves a lot of role playing. They don’t literally visit groceries, restaurants, museums, etc. Should they learn what some of the less flattering language happens to be in case they hear it later? For the sake of decency I’d say no (reserve it to a glossary for optional reference), though I would not blame someone who says yes nearly as much as if that person had hurled the word in a native conversational context. Like: I am le uncouth street thug. I tell you that you are la bitch. Now what is your response? Le gun?
molto de trop, to mix italian and french
If it was my daughter I might have come in and yelled “BAAAAAASTARD”
You are correct, teachers should not call students names. However, some exceptions remain. Coaches can call players what they want to (check it out, you'll find it to be universally true). And, students can call teachers whatever name they wish to call them, including bitch. You will never be able to force a public apology from the student.
Well, was she a bitch?
Here's my story...had a Mechanical Drawing teacher take a disruptive and disrespectful student by the front of his shirt, lift him off the ground and trace his outline on the chalkboard...told him if he ever mouthed off again, he'd live to regret it.
Never happened again and the rest of us knew better than to even think about crossing the man...a damned knowledgeable and excellent teacher by the way. But he made his point with the fool the only way that fool was going to understand it.
Today? OMG!!! Clutch my pearls, pick me up off the floor and cover the gasps of outrage...pansy ass society afraid to correct the "little darlings" whenever they cross the line because they aren't being taught at home what is and is not acceptable behavior....
That used to get students suspended, now it seems crude talk is the rage du jour, or something like that.
The trouble with contracting the lessons you give out to hell is that hell later demands your payment.
just kidding about baaaaaaaaaaaastard
