IRS Employee Looking for Lois Lerner Emails Was Blind, Literally!

An IRS employee tasked with trying to restore and obtain emails on Lois Lerner’s IRS computer’s hard drive was legally blind. Stephen Manning, the deputy chief information officer for strategy and modernization at the IRS, submitted an affidavit in the True the Vote vs. IRS litigation regarding the persons and procedures used to attempt to recover Lois Lerner’s hard drive containing emails pertaining to Tea Party targeting.

The affidavit can be read here. Paragraph 14 describes the educational background of the person searching for data on Lois Lerner’s hard drive:

“According to the Specialist, prior to joining the Internal Revenue Service … training was completed through Lions World Services for the Blind.”

Sources familiar with the litigation confirm to me that the government confirmed that the IRS employee searching for the lost data was legally blind.

It was also revealed today that backup tapes of Lois Lerner’s emails were discovered in an off-site storage facility in West Virginia. The inspector general of the Treasury Department learned that the tapes existed and drove to West Virginia to retrieve them. Lawyers for the Justice Department as well as IRS officials have stated under oath or to the federal courts that no such backup tapes existed. They were “recycled,” DOJ lawyers told the court.

Haven’t we seen this movie before?

Government officials working with leftist organizations decided to target the president’s political opponents just before the president faced reelection. When the bad behavior is discovered, top officials in the administration and at the Justice Department use their power to hide the truth about the targeting of political opponents. Officials at the Justice Department fight disclosure of information about the administration’s wrongdoing. They even deny that tapes exist documenting communications about the wrongdoing by top government officials. We then learn the stunning news that tapes with all of the information detailing who knew what and when, actually do exist.

Next we’ll hear that the backup tapes in West Virginia have a 17-minute gap.

But the media wave has passed.

That's what the left is master of: surfing the media wave. And they even have a wave-making machine.

Don’t worry. If there are e-mails, we will find them. We have top people on it.

“What top people?”

Top, top people.

She still gets the platinum federal retirement package..............Oh yeah, a few paid speeches to Democrat organizations.

I am sorry, but being blind is irrelevant. There are so many assistive technologies that a blind person can absolutely access and read the backup files, if that is his or her job.

I wonder how many people know. Certainly, the lofos don't. That's half the country. The rest of the country is working like dogs, and if they have any free time at all, it's spent on Facebook.

Americans are going to be surprised when they wake up in Venezuela.

"Remember when you didn't have to line up to buy food? Huh. I wonder what happened."

I had to get a replacement Social Security card a few years ago. Went to the office and sat for 3 hours amidst a room full of foreigners, young fat people, older fat people, and baby mamas (applying for SSI for their absent baby-daddy babies).

Finally, a woman came through the double doors and ushered me back to the ‘specialist’. He was completely blind, and this escort’s job was to read everything for him so he could make the entries on the computer. Now, this ‘assistant’ to the blind guy didn’t look at his entries - she couldn’t even see them. All the guy had to do was say ‘done’ and that was it - supposedly.

Needless to say, I never got that replacement card. When I called to get an appointment, they acted like it was my fault. I got another appointment with one of zombies and she treated me like an illegal trying to get a fake card. But I endured and she finally submitted the info, and the card came in the mail a few days later. I wasted two good days because this blind guy HAD to have a job.

For what its worth, the non-blind Social Security employees are no better. It took me 12 phone calls and 3 in person visits to get a simple SSA-44 form processed. Several of the employees simply told me they could not help and asked me to leave.

Every tax paying American should be forced to spend a day in the waiting room of their local SSA office to see their tax dollars at work. The clients are just what you described.

I work in IT - and this entire story was ridiculous from the beginning. This latest bit just adds to the absurdity.

The most basic disaster recovery planning includes server backups to tape - or virtual storage. In all but the most archaic situations - these backups are controlled by software that not only backs up the data, but controls the movement and storage of the backup media(tape, vitrual tape, other physical media).

When a backup is completed successfully - some sort of “media move” logic takes place and a report is issued - instructing operations personnel to physically put tapes into a crate that is then sent off-site.

To make a long story short - a simple report could have been generated day 1 that would provide a list of all media used to back up the servers and ultimately the emails in question. Getting all that restored and reviewed is quite another thing - but the fact is - the data was there and everyone knew it.

It's like the frog in the water. Put him in cold water and turn up the heat. He doesn't notice the water is hot until it is too late.

Personally, I think it is all over but the crying. Obama wanted to fundamentally change America. The people voted for him, twice. He is succeeding.

I heard a comment the other day saying that the federal government is both expanding and imploding at the same time. Surely, at some point, regulating every computer, every television, every bit of food you eat, every farm animal will be too much and the colossus will start to crack. The Bundy ranch face off might have been a sign of things to come. It seems as if the population will no longer accept massacres like Waco or Ruby Ridge. We certainly live in interesting times.

That SS-44 must have been related to reporting a life-changing/income event for Medicare, right?

They whacked me with a 100% penalty on my Medicare payment (plus Part D) because of 2013 income. In 2014 my income went down drastically and it took me forever to find out about the form. I called a couple three times. One of the morons there told me I’d have to come in, and when I asked her (I knew already) could I complete that form and mail it in. She had to check to see that I could. She was totally incompetent. Her only job was to slough off people and tell them to make an appointment to come into the office (where somebody else would do the right thing.)
